Simmons is right tho.
Doc DID quit on the team. If Doc wanted to coach the Celtics he would be. He signed a 5 year deal with the understanding Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett weren't gonna get any younger and there would be a rebuilding period. He said "I'm a Celtic." Then to pull all this behind the scenes, and also purposely make sure Bledsoe wouldn't go to the Celtics while under contract to Boston is fukked up. Because he is such a good politician and likable with the media, with the exception of Simmons, he got a free pass.
I don't think that this is true at all. I think he signed that deal always expecting to be able to coach Pierce, KG, and Ray through the duration (perhaps being gently, assured as much). It's always been hinted that he didn't want to rebuild. So he signs that extension believing they're going to ride that Big 3 to the wheels fall off.
Sounds like a similar bill of goods sold Ray...fast-forward 8 months or so, and they're trying to trade Ray, tho it doesn't go through. This pisses Ray off, he leaves in the off-season taking less money to join the Heat. Then we get to this offseason, and Danny's likely talking about trading KG and Pierce, and Doc is like "well, fukk it, I'm out too".
I think that's what Doc means when he says Simmons doesn't know all the facts. And to be honest, I bet Danny is actually OK with that (may've been even mutually orchestrated). We all know Doc isn't good with bad teams. Why would Danny want to pay him one of the top salaries in the league to coach the team to a shytty record?
Doc is a good coach, tho, fukk the hate. He's just not of that Larry Brown/Doug Collins mold...he ain't coaching a 30 win team to 50 wins...he's a coach a 50 win team to a title kind-of-guy.
