So nobody has left a job/city to go to a bigger job/city?!

:damn:

since when is the clippers job better than the celtics? only because the celtics were old now and have to start over doc gave em the pacspit, the same doc who never got out the first round until ainge gave him garnett, rondo, and allen, the same doc who couldnt even win 35 games in boston until he got rondo allen and garnett. the celtics were paying him 7 mill a year, its not like the clippers are paying him more.

any other coach in any sport would get railed for this, but because its good ol black doc we look the other way :childplease:

teams quit on coaches all the time. fukk that, Doc played his cards right and won.

Fans are pieces of shyt for the most part.

That's not why people are upset at him. It's him trying to blame others for him leaving and acting like he didn't know this team was going to have to rebuild 2 years ago when he signed a 5 year, 35 million dollar contract.

Breh, it ain't the fact that Rivers left, it's the fact that he said himself that he wants to help Celtics rebuild when he signed that contract. Leaving when that rebuild was starting for a team that doesn't have to go through that hard process gives the perception that he was bullshytting everybody in the first place. Or he simply quit.

If Simmons says some shyt like he'll won't leave ESPN no matter how much money another company offers him, but then bolts when NBC gives him a bigger contract, then he's fair game to be criticized.

Doc shouldn't have said shyt about rebuilding in Boston when he signed that contract. There's a lot of ways he could have answered questions when they asked him about rebuilding:beli:. He set himself up.

yep this is just like bobby petrino leaving in the night to go coach at arkansas, or nick saban saying hes not going to alabama yet he did, but this is even worse, becasue the celtics made glenn, glenn just a few months ago was #bostonstrong , emotional. Every year big nose glenn was on his my kids my kids i may leave to get more money from boston only to spit on them at the end..

glenn deserves everything coming in his way

and?

the same thing happens when teams realize they made a bad decision with a coach and move on. Its a business move.

Doc didnt stick around, and if dude was underperforming the last two years simmons would be wanting Doc gone too.

It would be one thing if he were trying to get the rest of the money from his contract, and leaving but he left and the Celtics got draft picks. They need to stop crying and get over it.

The D (where it's so cold)
Simmons is right, but its not his place.

Doc Rivers fell for the trap and is now going back and forth with a JOURNALIST. He should be ABOVE the media.

I think Bill Simmons might be the only journalists that's able to speak on this. Jackie Macmullan and Bob Ryan probably could aswell since they are just as close to Doc (if not closer since they actually stay in the Boston area) but they are writers/reporters so they can't be as opinionated as Bill and still expect a coach or player to talk to them but it's not like Bill is giving his opinion on something he knows nothing about, he's very familiar with the Celtics and Glenn especially.

I don't blame Doc for pursuing the Clipper job, it was a lateral move pay wise but he's in a better coaching position and it's LA, that's not quitting and writers like Bill deserve some of the blame over oversimplifying terms like 'quit' and 'choke' by the way, Ainge is sort of quitting on the team but we call it rebuilding. Still, Doc is still fair game to criticism and judgement for his decision, how he handles it is on him.

Doc did fall into the trap but Bill left him little choice calling out his integrity, since it's kind of obvious Doc is doing some highly publicized flip flopping.:skip:

When owners/GMs say one thing and do another they get criticized for it as well. Doc's just getting the same treatment, only he's handling it a lot poorer than most by repeatedly changing his story.

Doc has always been a kiss ass to the media that's why no one (besides Simmons) trashed him when the team was terrible. Seems like he's pissed that someone is finally calling him out.

The points about GM's/owners going against their word makes no sense in this argument. The Celtics never lied to Doc Rivers, made him the highest paid coach in the league, didn't fire him when the team sucked for years and brought in hall of famers for him to coach.

When the owner of the Marlins, Jeffrey Loria, promised a winning team for their new stadium and then sold all of the team's stars after the first season, was he not roundly criticized?
we're talking about firing coaches.

Anyone with a brain knows that Ainge didn't want him there and Doc didn't want to be there anymore. It was mutual, there was no way CEltics were gonna pay a coach 7 mill a year during a rebuild, thats idiotic. They got a first round pick out of him, so obviously it was a win win. I dont know what the fukk bill simmons is whining about.

What's more lucrative than ESPN (and having his own online publication)? Plus Doc is getting paid the same amount in LA that he was getting paid in Boston.

It's not just the quitting that has Doc looking bad. It's the passive-aggressive way he's going at Simmons, and how he keeps changes reasons as to why he left Boston.

No one takes away from his motivational ability, but he was awful before KG and Ray came along. Like someone said earlier, he's someone that can take a 55 win team to a title, but not turn a mediocre team into a good one.
