weird, I always thought their sophomore sounded way too crisp, same with it was written. Somewhat detracted from the little things that made their debut special. I always thought the grimy quality added to the musics atmosphere and soundscape

Same with Life After Death. Thats why I say nikkas start to fall off the second they get signed to majors, dudes like to turn hollywood immediately and abandon the qualities that made their music special.

It's not that I don't like the beats. I just don't like how it's mixed/mastered.

It's an incredibly low budget album. I think the whole thing cost something like $30,000.

They pooled their money, recorded it, then went to DJs in person and handed out the copies. It is the mainstream equivalent of a rapper in the middle of the mall handing you his album, back in the 90's.

How much does it take to make a high-quality mixtape nowadays? Probably much less than 30k, right?

Now? A lot less.

But it's silly as hell to compare a mix tape in 2016 to a album recorded in '92. Nowadays you can get a bootleg of a few programs, record/master your music, make a video on your smart phone, and release it via Sound Cloud or Youtube.

None of the above existed in '92. It was just a bunch of guys, with sometimes faulty equipment, recording in a basement in the hood.

I'm only 21 so some of those early 90's/late 80's lower sound quality albums are hard for me to listen to but it actually works very well for this album. The gritty sound and subject matter with RZA's production make for a perfect fit and makes me feel like i'm in their world. I lowkey feel like it wouldn't be as great if it *did* have better sound quality.

That was the point.

It was supposed to sound gritty, raw, unclean...it was supposed to match the raps/rappers.
36 Chambers was supposed to sound different from everything else that was out.
