I agree 100%. The production on 36 isn't "all that". I always liked that album cause of lyricism.
At least not like some people make it out to be.

36 Chambers sound better to me now then it did back when it came out! :gladbron:

Did they remaster the album for Spotify or something? :whoo:

I need a Wu Stan to go to Spotify and listen and tell me if its remastered cause I never was a big Wu Stan and hated the quality back when I hard it in the 90s but for some reason I'm really diggin 36 Chambers on Spotify!

Not sure about Spotify specifically but most of the versions they play out over the internet now is the remastered edition. The CD itself has been remastered so I imagine they transferred that to most of the online playing apps as well.

I understand where you're coming from. The sound quality is bad. It almost turned me off. Imagine if you're a young kids during this time trying to get into the Wu? The sound will turn u off.

Just the way it sounds... I respect and admire the lyricism, but the production and quality just isn't appealing.

Maybe it was a victim of the time period, but illmatic came out a year later and it sounds so much better sonically. This isn't a thread meant to hate on 90's hip-hop, because I love 90's rap.

C'mon guys it's supposed to be mixed like that. It's the most important aspect of the album, its the complete opposite spectrum to Dre's 2001(A masterpiece in mixing). It's supposed to be grimey! The guy who mastered it is one of the best in the business even to this day. You might as well tell A tribe called quest to turn the bass down on Low End Theory.

Also during this period hip hop was moving to digital and compact disc. RZA and a few others like Premier and DITC were trying to hang on to the vinyl sound. Keep in mind that that is a key element. He kinda went overboard. So I get what OP is saying. Listen to the Paid In Full album and you get an idea of what he was trying to recapture. The hiss of a cassette tape, the crackle of vinyl, a sloppily cut sample are all missing in music today. That is why genres like trap etc. Quickly become generic sounding after the newness wears off.

For any given album ever made there's at least one person on earth whom it doesn't appeal to. It's silly to think that on a planet with millions of people, there's any opinion anyone can have that, out of the other millions of people in the world, they're the only ones to have thought it. Doesn't matter what it is.
