I honestly miss this era. Always dope new artists to check out, and mixtape hype was at an all time high. But there were drawbacks.

Like most people did say, you did have a small group of mostly non-black bloggers (Fantano types) gatekeeping a facet of black culture and determining which artist we should be listening too. I think the 2Dopeboyz vs OddFuture beef illustrated this.
This. To add on we as the consumer missed out on a lot of dope shyt. That's why the divides in fans is so wide. Drake fans can't name a Kendrick song, and vice versa. If you're a badass fan you can't name a Dom Kennedy song and vice versa. There's no real beef, it's just the way blogs worked you ONLY checked for your favorite artist, camp, sound. You could set up alerts and shyt. Listening now with 15+ year older ears I missed aloooooooot of dope music. I just never even bothered checking for.

blog rock era to me is when absolutepunk was around 2005-2008/9
Jason Tate was such a fukking bytch. I remember him saying he was rooting for Duke because he liked seeing a white guy succeed against black players or some shyt. This was the JJ Reddikk era.

Absolutepunk focuses more on pop punk/screamo shyt than what the op is talking about though.

Yes. If you look at the rappers who came out in that era or were through that era it's a long list.

You had

Odd Future and it's members
Charles Hamilton
Kid Kudi
Prime Kanye
Drake when he was bearable
Nicki Minaj
Joey Badass
Currency
Wale
Kendrick Lamar
J Cole
Childish Gambino
Chance the Rapper
Logic
Chief Keef
The Cool Kids

Not saying all these rappers were my cup of tea but if there was a vibe you were looking for it was there.
