Cancel Culture was a phenomenon proposed by Millennials.

What is Cancel Culture?

Cancel culture refers to the practice of publicly calling out and shaming individuals or entities for behavior deemed unacceptable or offensive, often resulting in consequences such as loss of employment or social ostracization. While cancel culture has been praised for holding people accountable for their actions, it has also been criticized for promoting a toxic and intolerant public discourse, stifling free speech, and potentially leading to unjust consequences for those who are accused without due process.

One potential consequence of cancel culture is the chilling effect it can have on free speech, as individuals may refrain from expressing their opinions or engaging in controversial discussions out of fear of being targeted and publicly shamed. Additionally, cancel culture can perpetuate a culture of fear and intolerance, where individuals are punished for minor mistakes or misunderstandings rather than being given the opportunity to learn and grow from their experiences.

Furthermore, cancel culture can lead to a lack of diversity of thought and ideas, as individuals may self-censor or avoid discussing certain topics that are deemed controversial or sensitive. This can ultimately lead to a narrowing of public discourse and a lack of progress in addressing important social issues.

Cancel culture and Political correctness changed the shift of the internet being more serious, uptight and judgmental. It used to be that people can roast each other, take a joke and keep it moving. Nowadays, people are overly sensitive and quick to play victim instead of having a civil discourse of the topic.

Does cancel culture cancel conversation? Limiting the freedom of the 1st amendment? How are we supposed to get in the root of the issue and find solutions if people are too fearful to discuss it?

It was good when it was about rape and racism.

Now they wanna cancel people for anything that is perceived as insensitive. i'm sorry but your uber driver doesn't need to go viral for being rude and demanding a tip. Your fedex driver doesn't need to lose his job and be homeless because he tossed your package on your porch instead of placing down carefully.

"Cancel Culture was a phenomenon proposed by Millennials."

Article starts off with a fukking lie. "cancel culture" was pushed by white racists and people who think women didn't deserve rights in the right wing media sphere. Just because the MSM carried water for them in the media doesn't mean that shyt is even remotely true. Conservatives did cancel culture all the time and it wasn't an issue till that gun got turned on them by people fed up with their bullshyt.

The Dixie Chicks situation where they were rightfully against the Iraq war happened decades ago. Anyone trying to pin "Cancel Culture" on millennials are just full of shyt.

Do we even need to get into the whole "Political correctness is bad" when that's mainly pushed by people who want to use racial slurs without consequences???

i find the majority of posts against cancel-culture to be suspect. :mjpls:

white people have a way longer history of cancelling people in this country for centuries, they just never coined a phrase for it into the american lexicon.

sell a house to a black family, cancelled!

associate with a black person, cancelled!

(everyone in your family will be ostracized, your families business no longer patronized, endure verbal and physical abuse, etc)

they've been cancelling people for centuries to uphold white supremacy.

Above the fray.
People who don't understand the concepts of courtesy and respect for others have to be reigned in by society.
Stand on your square if you feel strongly enough about what you said.
Main issue is that social media has convinced people that others care about their opinions. Nobody cares what you think, and the world won't stop spinning because you didn't express your views.
