Does Kanye wonder if he'll ever be more successful in business than Pharrell?

This. If BBC stayed under the Bape model they would be producing low volume stuff and not getting it in as many stores.

You guys must be idiots because BBC is still selling well, it may not be as huge and prominent as it once was but people wear it, it's still selling at high fashion retailers.

What's funny is BBC outlasted Bape :heh:
BBC is not selling at high fashion retailers anymore. They lowered their prices and you can get that shyt at Tilly's now.

But you're wrong tho... this whole thread is wrong

first off Bape is still HUGE overseas.. and it's still expensive as fukk.. I just went to their website.. 175 for a 80s style baseball hat.. cheapest jacket they got is actually a vest... for 450... shirts, 250... shoes, 260... and all these numbers are the LOWEST priced

meanwhile if you can find BBC in a department store chain, you pretty much are not high fashion.. and ye spoke on this.. said BBC is not high fashion anymore and he doesn't want to be BBC.. and how pharrel had to run over there for clothes and got a percentage, instead of owning his own company

kanye wants to be an owner... wake up, draw a design for HIS company.. give it to HIS people to make it.. approve it HIMSELF.. manufacture it, ship it, and sell it all under HIS company... no retail chains.. boutique stores... no $50 hoodies.. $800 hoodies...

He's said many times that he could go anywhere and get some "rapper deal" clothing line with your name on it, but you owned by another company and don't get the percentages like an owner or the power of one or final say on the clothes

A Bathing Ape has been around since 1992. BBC has been around since like, 2003.

BBC used to be exclusive when it first came out when Sk8thing was still behind most of the design. For those that don't know he was an early Bathing Ape collaborator in the 90s. The clothes were made in Japan and the prices were premium. At that point it was just a niche brand for boutiques.

Then BBC got bigger, expanded their distribution and shifted their production to China. You can find it everywhere from the Karmaloop to the hood sneaker spot in Brooklyn.

Nigo recently signed off as the creative director and head honcho of BAPE and sold it to I.T. 2 years ago for $2,000,000. Now he's on par to become the creative director of UNIQLO next year (and in my honest opinion, UNIQLO is probably going to rival H&M in the fast fashion market in five years). And we all know how big of homies Nigo and Pharell are (they recently released a BAPE/BBC collab capsule a couple of weeks ago).

It's still around, but they had to close down the LA store (the London store is still open and the NY store) and focused more on the Asian Market with stores in Hong Kong, China, Singapore etc. Not to mention Nigo has his own brand Human Made and A Bathing Ape now has such diffusion lines as Mr. Bathing Ape, AAPE, BusyWorks, etc.

I'm just saying, BBC and BAPE have been in cahoots since BBC's inception. Both aren't going anywhere soon, but the way you put the last line kind of made me think you thought BAPE was gone. It never left.

BBC is still very popular within the asian crowd at least around here :yeshrug:
That's because their main focus was primarily the Asian market (Japan most notably). I mean, when you really think about it BBC is the American version of A Bathing Ape.

They aren't the first though. Many of the storied streetwear fashion brands have had another life in Japan such as Supreme and Stussy. Supreme has 5 stores in Japan alone and Stussy has exclusive retail locations there as well.

Real heads been knowing that Japan has been producing the dope shyt fashion wise and have always been ahead of the curve more than anybody else. There's so many people there and there's just honestly a more open minded consumer there with more access to disposable income. Tokyo especially as the epicenter of art, culture and fashion in the West. Also there's more of a focus on quality, detail, and taste there..compare to America where the art of the rampant business model run into the ground just to maximize earnings is more prevalent then the actual art.

BBC might not be at the niche market anymore but it's being sold at Selfridges over here in the UK, that's high fashion.

I really do think BBC is starting to become as Pharrell has always wanted it to become, like a Ralph Lauren type brand. There's levels to this BBC shyt in the same way there's levels to this Ralph shyt, line's are being mass produced for the karmaloops of this world and of course produced in niche and sold to the high fashion retailer i.e. a Selfridges

I still wear bape shyt :skip: but it's definitely a dead brand, I remember how huge it was in like 04-06 and it'll never reach that level so when you compare it to how big it once was, it's finished. They'll still have idiots like me buying their shyt though :snoop:

I respect BBC simply for the fact the Pharrell is willing to work with other people in the fashion game. He did the BBC Bee Line with Mark McNairy (a controversial but loud menswear designer), brought back the Ice Cream skateboard team, and still manages to hold his own as a creative/pop culture force.

I remember when BAPE was lowkey though. I read about it in 1999 from an issue of the now defunct RAYGUN Magazine which talked about it's appropriation of the planet of the apes movies (there has been a dispute though than actually Erik Brunetti of FUCT came up with it and Nigo stole it but the rumor has never really been confirmed nor denied). But yeah, it was big for a while then Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy started wearing it and mad fake BAPE gear flooded the market and that kind of tarnished it's image here in the States..

I respect the ethos and vision behind the brand. It really was one of a kind when it came out and really influential. Plus Nigo always worked with quality people from start to finish.

Uh no it isnt.

Hov has probably bought a minority stake in the company like he does with everything and got these idiots believing Pharrell would just sell the company he's brought from the bottom to Roc-a-wear. :pachaha:

In the same way Hov owns the nets :deadrose:

BBC is at the front of Pharrell's I am Other movement, I've said this before and I'll say it again BBC isn't the niche anymore but that's not a bad thing at all. Oh and BBC always has been and always will be bigger than anything Kanye can even dream of creating. Skateboard P is just too talented for 'Ye to even to even touch his space.

He didn't even buy a partnership and himself said they just did a collab on twitter. People just trying to use this as a way to discredit Pharrell to save face for their hero Kanye who doesn't give a fukk they exist

I still see people rocking BBC. Not nearly as much as they used to but it's still around. People just can't admit that Pharrell is what Kanye wants to be but cant so he puts out stupid lines his stans meet up like 'HE WANTS TO BE VERSACE!'
