your division is trash though so its easy for you to say that..

if the divisions were stacked evenly then you would have an argument.

but they arent, they are horribly balanced

Arizona Cardinals deserved to make the play offs over every single team in your division last year :yeshrug:

Thing is, its really impossible to balance divisions. Now matter how you do it, you will always end up with a division that as 2 or more good teams and a division that has 3 or more average teams. shyt changes so quickly in the NFL.

More than the Eagles who...uh...you know...had fewer wins than them? :wtf: So basically you are okay with teams being punished for being in good divisions or rewarded for being in bad divisions? The line of thinking you expressed only makes sense if all divisions are equal and that is not the case.

its ok bruh, when this site first started and on SOHH I used to post that the NBA needs to take the top 16 teams for the play offs and not just the "best" 8 from each conference. Everyone said I was dumb. Now in 2014 going into 2015, everyone thinks its a great idea :stopitslime:

theyll need ESPN to tell them this needs to happen before theyll agree with us.

If your teams had multiple chances to lock down the division title and they fail, yes. For the record, I felt the same way in 2010 when the Saints had to go to Seattle in the Wild Card. Losing to a bad Cardinals and Browns team that season put us in a position where we had to chase the Falcons and ultimately settle for the #5 seed. It is what it is. :manny:

Divisions go in cycles.

I remember last year cardinals fans were complaining that they won 10 games and missed the playoffs but when they went to the SB they were in a terrible division and only won 9 games

Thing is, it's actually worse in the NFL. Most of the teams making the playoffs in the NBA have no chance of even coming close to a title. Every team in the NFL playoffs has a legit shot at winning it all...yes even the 7-9 ones because any given Sunday any team can beat another (especially at home). You would think they would want to make sure that they were only giving the best squads that opportunity but I guess manufactured drama is more important than making sense :yeshrug:.

Thats all well and good if all the teams above you failed less. It makes no sense if they failed more which is the crux of this discussion.

Those same cardinals fans bytching last year don't even get the chance to get to the SB that they got to if not for this format.

Also, this format doesn't factor in injuries/strength of schedule so I'm whatever.

If GB had Rodgers last year they're record would have been as good as SF's

Those same cardinals fans bytching last year don't even get the chance to get to the SB that they got to if not for this format.

Let's see:

#1 seed - New York Giants - 12-4
#2 seed - Carolina Panthers - 12-4
#3 seed - Atlanta Falcons - 11-5
#4 seed - Minnesota Vikings - 10-6
#5 seed - Philadelphia Eagles - 9-6-1
#6 seed - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 9-7
#7 seed - Dallas Cowboys - 9-7
#8 seed - Chicago Bears - 9-7

The Buccaneers get the final seed based on having a better conference record (8-4) than the Cardinals (7-5), Cowboys (7-5), and Bears (7-5). So yes, you are correct about ARZ missing the playoffs for the 2008 season under a best records in the conference scenario.

EDIT: The Cowboys get the #7 seed based on a better strength of victory (.445) than the Cardinals (.368) and Bears (.366). The Bears get the #8 seed based on a better record in common games (3-2) than the Cardinals (2-3).

:patrice:I'm fairly certain he's referring to them getting shut out last season despite a 10-6 record.

you sure, i thought i heard that was changed, div winners are not guaranteed home field in the wild card stage if the other team has a better record

Not as far as I can tell. I actually think that would be a great wrinkle.
