Does the South's reign in rap have more to do with the culture of the USA than the culture of NY?

Yes, but NY also fell the fukk off. Lil Wayne is the only superstar the south has been able to produce and style wise he's a NY rapper, the south is cool for jingles but overall their whole culture is inferior & not conducive to producing classic hiphop and everyone knows it.

NY
Artists made sugary summer anthems and the culture internalized that wave, making it the new norm.

That allowed artists to just focus on chorus melody, and opened the floodgates for lyrically deficient artists from all over to get on by just having a catchy record.

Gradually lyricism declined as a result cause it was no longer of prime importance, whereas with original hiphop the whole verse was the hook.

I agree with pretty much your post but wanted to place emphasis on this part for others to see. Look what's celebrated now days in the mainstream. Ignorance, reality tv, & drug abuse are looked at as normal & cool. Most southern rap fits these stereotypes perfectly whereas traditionally NY never fit that & that's why NY's being shutout of the game at the moment. The art of lyricism which is a major component of hip hop is looked at as "lyrical miracle" rap which is B.S. & a excuse to like ignorant music & push it to the forefront.

here we go again. :snoop:

Majority come from the Caribbean, then local, then the south

Black Americans outnumber Caribbeans in New York what are you talking about???. Caribbeans don't even make up most of New York they're just gathered in specific areas. Most Blacks up here are only two generations removed from the South and most of them come from the Carolinas.

I will never agree with your point of view when there was slavery in staten island and the other boroughs.
Those people didnt move. Some did, most stayed.
And those migrating into NYC never outnumbered those people ever.
Your facts are twisted and misunderstood @ODOT META for both of you.
Go look up the history of the 5 boroughs and see how Northern African Americans and Caribbean Americans outnumber the southern migrating African American generation.
You say people concentrated certain areas, and that's what the southerners did; but they never outnumbered who was already there.

You do have to consider the countries most populous region, being essentially shut out for 20+ years... would end up dominating for an extended period once they got on.

and the fact that southern rappers treat rap very much differently than NYC rappers.

Mainly, newer souther rappers not of the Outkast or UGK variety treat rap as a way to get hoes dancing and cater to anyone that really don't give a fukk about Hip hop in the first place

Most black people in the North and in this case, NY were most likely of Southern origin before the more recent reverse migrations. There were/are Northern Aframs w/o any Southern roots but they were most likely outnumbered by ones with Southern roots even before what people call the first Great Migration (1910–1930).
