Nobody has done that though. Yeah, there's people who will tell you that Nas ran '94, but obviously those people weren't around to even have an opinion. Nas is my favorite rapper, and while Illmatic is his most acclaimed album, 1994 wasn't even the biggest year of his career. Obviously, Illmatic made an impact though, a huge one even if it was mostly on the East Coast. Mobb Deep, Wu, and Kool G. Rap had him on their albums. There were bigger rappers commercially, but Nas was sought after.
Nas flopped and has been talked about as if illmatic is next to doggystyle.
When in the real world he was nowhere near snoop.
This bias re-writing of history, is largely never extended to non east coast albums. shyt is big cap. Album ain't shyt. And none of them nikkas you just named was popping like that when they first put Nas on their album. Da fuk

#3 isn't an excuse. Every album you listed that sold records had G Funk. The only real exception I saw was Meth and 69 Boyz. Data actually supports claim #3.
The data supports the fact that Nas wasn't popping. Yea it's an excuse. A pathetic one. Nas album just wasn't considered that good and it's not that good, it's average at best.

People can compare albums regardless of what they sold. That's neither here or there. If someone Eightball & MJG's Coming Out Hard to Doggystyle that's their business. If the argument is Doggystyle is better because it sold more and that Eightball & MJG shouldn't be compared, then it is a rather DUMB argument. It's music and any argument not discussing beats, flows, rhymes, content, subject matter is null and void.

No, it doesn't. Just because an album doesn't sell doesn't mean that wasn't good. The fact is that Illmatic sold over time. People went back to it over the years even though it flopped initially.

OK so what mid nineties west coast albums, that didn't sale well, get respectfully discussed amongst goat albums?

They (including myself) had interest due to the east coast bias media's constant promotion of it as a goat album. This has thoroughly been explained.

A lot of people didn't. People who became fans of his later albums went back and checked his back catalog. I mean, Illmatic went gold in 1996 some months before IWW dropped, but on the heels of "Street Dreams" dropping. It went platinum around the time Stillmatic was announced and during the beef.

Ras Kass's Soul On Ice. I've seen people swear by that album. To a lesser extent, Xzibit's debut and sophomore efforts.
I've seen ras Kass album get credit in east coast bias media. They occasionally do give credit to outsiders whom attempt to sound like the stereotypical east coast artist. Hence, funkdafied, no props despite being a huge success and common, also from Chicago, getting high credit for Resurrection, which I'm not impressed by at all. But any outside artist that wasn't doing THAT, had to be a major success to get any credit.
Quik made amazing albums in the 90's,no credit

Too short, made great music and was going Plat every album from 88'-96',no credit

Spice 1 first 3 albums were classics, dope and went gold as fast or faster than illmatic, no credit. In fact, the only time he's brought up in East coast media, it's in a derogatory fashion. Despite Nas, of all people giving him credit for his work.

Nas had two other albums between iww and Stillmatic, it was the media hype, more than anything.

Breh, one of these album is named after Illmatic. You don't think people were curious as to why he was making a sequel?

It Was Written is the album which he blew up. And subsequently, I Am... was also huge. I'm sure people were still buying the album.

No, I don't. Illmatic never stopped being a bias media favorite regardless of Stillmatic, it's like Rakim, bias media always suck his dikk no matter how long ago he fell off. I remember when blaze mag tried to have him #1 and Pac #7. The general public, flipped out, so they held a vote, which Pac won the #1 spot in.
