The DOJ should not intervene in the sale of companies for political reasons. Are you okay with the DOJ playing favorites when it comes to offering contracts and approving business deals? Are news agencies that only present the administration in a positive light free from retribution from the white house and government?

Please, step up to the plate and explain why it isn't.
Isn't this more so an issue about monopolies? AT&T owns DirecTV already getting Turner as well would be too much. Of course Trump is going to take as many shots as possible but DOJ is right in this instance and should do this regardless of trump's feelings toward CNN

I am all for disallowing media monopolies, but this stinks of political bias and maneuvering simply because CNN is bitingly critical of Trumpo :hhh:

The federal govt should not be dictating things like this based on partisan lines, this is scary shyt. Sets a bad precedent.

We've had reports of Trump wanting to use the deal as leverage over CNN

We know that law makers have proved the DOJ 4 months ago with regards to white house interference on the deal after reports that the WH was attempting to chime in.

We have the head lawyer stating many times he doesn't see an issue with the merger just because it's big..

Then we have Trump he campaigned on blocking it.

We have him saying he was disappointed with the justice department.

Then we have a leaked article from the DOJ saying they're going to file suit.

:patrice:

How is that not crazy to you?

Actually, democrats are generally opposed to these types of deals.

However, we have the head anti trust lawyer on record saying he has no issues with the deal. He's made this statement numerous times. It falls in line with conservative ideas about government not over meddling in business.

:skip: well, unless they make Trump look bad

So basically fukk Trump.

That they are right in this instance doesn't mitigate that doing this for purely partisan political reasons is the worst possible precedent to set, because you're basically allowing them to start moving the needle farther and farther towards "accepted" media outlets.

I would love to believe that, but Delgarim's own comments don't agree. Are we not going to take the man at his word? He said this a year ago. Basically confirmed as much during his hearing in September.

Also of note, Trump said he'd make sure the DOJ would block this before he ever saw any evidence, information, or numbers.

nikka you are in an entirely different place with this. :what:

IDGAF if Trump blocks this if the reasoning is "to prevent a viable media monopoly". He's not blocking it on those grounds, the DOJ is blocking it based purely on partisanship. That is the issue.
