I will say this:

From CC's days in philly 'till his time in minnesota & even his brief time with the dolphins there were always stories from anonymous players & writers giving details on how big of jerk this guy really was. He wasn't well liked by anyone.

Racism has long been mediated through sports. Only the most hardcore racist cant see past race when it comes to a rooting interest in his or her team. Some of the more bitterly racist regions of the world have the most passionate fans rooting for black players. Alabama comes to mind here.
