I have had family members die from it, had patients as young as 21 become dialysis patients while being fully healthy prior to contracting it. People die from all kinds of things but we don't lockdown society over it. I think a better strategy would've been to invest more money into dealing with it but we all know politicians won't do that. Wouldn't the person who doesn't have the infection yet also be protected from said "droplets" by wearing a mask themselves? If the mask can contain my droplets from getting to them, couldn't they just wear a mask and be protected from my droplets even if I'm maskless?

Do you not see how your point makes no sense? If folks don't want to get infected, they should wear masks. But forcing everyone to wear masks on the idea they will protect others but not you from the virus makes zero logical sense.

To me this mask agenda had nothing to do with safety. As you have pointed out the cheap surgical masks do pretty much nothing. This whole agenda of getting everyone to wear masks is about CONTROL. Its a way for those in power to flex their muscles in showing us just how much they can control us. Its why Nancy Pelosi can be at a massage parlor wearing no mask days after telling the public they must wear masks for their safety. Masks are a joke to those in power and we are the fools who fell for it.

Auckland New Zealand is in a 7 day lockdown over one case. I thought Japan and Singapore never did lockdowns.
