India/7/12 in shambles
That’s a criminal act, not a criminal allegation."Take your daughter to R Kelly have my way with her face", is definitely a criminal allegation lol
Didn't DJ Envy get Star arrested for saying something similar?

Two grown men consensually engaged in a public mud slinging contest and one got his feelings hurt so bad he wants a judge to make it all go away. There's no deep dive to get into here. This is a simple case of a sensitive rapper getting tucked back into his pajama clothes.
I would imagine they spent money to promote all of the songs. Then they put more money behind the song that caught on the best. That’s true. But from what I know, UMG has worked with Drake for a long time. Even if UMG starts working with Kendrick later, I think that’s where the problem is.
For example, people sometimes ask if Kendrick could sue because of the defamatory things said about him and his family in FM. I think he could, if UMG spent money to help promote or boost FM. In this case, they did it with NLU instead. In the end, UMG makes money from the fight between the artists, no matter who wins, but they might lose a really good partnership with Drake (the artist and business), who helped them earn lots and lots of money.
It appears to me that a lot of this can be summed up as conflict of interest. NLU was blowing up so UMG had every right to promote it from that aspect but they helped promote a song that was defamatory to one of the biggest clients they work with. If that client were to sue, they might the grounds to.

I get what you’re saying about looking at Drake as a “brand/business,” but that’s kind of the point I’m making… hip hop as an industry doesn’t operate like a traditional corporate environment. Even if UMG has contractual obligations to Drake, the reality is they’re also in the business of selling music, and controversy sells. There’s no version of this game where a label or platform is going to stay neutral if pushing a certain record makes money, even if it’s against one of their artists.I understand what you mean, but I don’t think the usual hip hop rules really apply here. Business works differently. If UMG has a contract with Drake (the brand/business) and they helped promote NLU’s song that spoke badly (spread rumors) about him — and it can be shown that it hurt Drake (the brand/business) — then he might have a legal case. I propose looking at it from this potential lens: if your employer helped spread harmful rumors about you in your industry, do you think most people would take your employer’s side?
Drake fans have no shame. If they did, they wouldn’t be fans in the first place.
I imagine every male Drake fan looks like Akademics, Mal and Rory.
This what happens when foreign kids come to meet/live with their American dad in America for the summerThis doesn’t mean the judge will dismiss but UMG claims complete ignorance of any part of the song before hand but it doesn’t mean some sub-section of interscope or other parts of UMG didn’t know. Lucian himself denying it may not mean much.
UMG and Lucian themselves deny everything:

renegotiate with UMG.I think I’m a Drake fan. I don’t know what the end game is. Settlement, I assume?
