And

Do nikkas forget that HOV exists

2011 Drake with the loosies. :whew:

Say what you want about his personality, but dude is such a great song writer. Honestly that's what's keeping him at the top.

Still uses ghostwriters and sharks concepts tho.

nikkaz wanna act like Aubrey ain't the hottest rapper in the game when his throwaways are songs of the generation :manny:

Hottest rapper doesn't equal the best rapper.

And dude, songs of a generation is huge overstatement.

Were only 15 years into the decade.

Everyday I'm hustling
A milli
Grindin
Drop it like it's hot
Through the wire/Gold digger
Hey yah/Miss Jackson
In Da Club
Stan
Hard in Da Paint

Those are songs of a generation.

As good as drakes freebies are. They don't have the artistic impact/ staying power to warrant such a claim. That's why Drake gave them away for free.

fukk out of here

a decade is 10 years you can't be 15 years into one

you named one song from 2010-pres....the ones from the 2000's are classics no doubt but there's plenty that's been iconic from the 2010's that will last my dude

Songwriting is constructing the actual Song as opposed to just writing the verses.

It deals with matching the lyrics to a concept, constructing an effective hook, adding bridges if it need be, making sure their is a smooth transition from the verse to the hook, creating a fully realized concept that matches the instrumental, etc

Writing verses is just a small part of songwriting and probably the easiest.

Lots of rappers can write killer verses but 99% of them couldn't write a song to save their life.

Jadakiss, Freddie Gibbs (outside some songs), Pusha T, they all can write killer verses anytime they want. But, their careers have all suffered because they have difficulty writing great singles.

It is precisely in this area that Drake excels as an artist.

Drake and his team can even flip an already great pop song...

...into an even bigger pop song.

And he does this consistently. Throughout all of his major releases.

That's why he's going to be tough to dethrone...

but, it's starting already...

WATTBA was the first release by him that had some truelly sloppy songwriting.

:deadmanny: 15 years into the decade. I can't believe I typed that.

But as far as this decade is concerned

:usure:

Name em breh

Name 8 iconic rap songs of the 2010s.

In terms of impact:

these are the contenders I got

1. Hard in the paint (definitely)

2. Purple swag/peso (maybe)

3. Yonkers (maybe)

4. Marvin's Room

5. Don't like.

6. I'm God (definitely, launched cloud rap)

7. Stay scheming (that's a reach)

8. Devil in a new Dress/Runaway

9. BMF (debateable)

10. Karate (reach).

11. Thuggin (reach)

I'm not some old head breh but I'm struggling to come up with a list.
I'm part of this Internet rap
generation. Thing is, styles switch up so damn quick, Songs from three years ago sound stale.
