:deadmanny: 15 years into the decade. I can't believe I typed that.

But as far as this decade is concerned

:usure:

Name em breh

Name 8 iconic rap songs of the 2010s.

In terms of impact:

these are the contenders I got

1. Hard in the paint (definitely)

2. Purple swag/peso (maybe)

3. Yonkers (maybe)

4. Marvin's Room

5. Don't like.

6. I'm God (definitely, launched cloud rap)

7. Stay scheming (that's a reach)

8. Devil in a new Dress/Runaway

9. BMF (debateable)

10. Karate (reach).

11. Thuggin (reach)

I'm not some old head breh but I'm struggling to come up with a list.
I'm part of this Internet rap
generation. Thing is, styles switch up so damn quick, Songs from three years ago sound stale.

:to:
No started from the bottom :what:
Peso nikka :what:

If BMF is "debatable" then so is every other song you listed.

BMF is debateagle in the sense of its impact.

Was it hard in the paint that brought on lex Luger and the modern trap sound or was it BMF?

Still can't touch my list though.

Thats the best I got.

Songwriting is constructing the actual Song as opposed to just writing the verses.

It deals with matching the lyrics to a concept, constructing an effective hook, adding bridges if it need be, making sure their is a smooth transition from the verse to the hook, creating a fully realized concept that matches the instrumental, etc

Writing verses is just a small part of songwriting and probably the easiest.

Lots of rappers can write killer verses but 99% of them couldn't write a song to save their life.

Jadakiss, Freddie Gibbs (outside some songs), Pusha T, they all can write killer verses anytime they want. But, their careers have all suffered because they have difficulty writing great singles.

It is precisely in this area that Drake excels as an artist.

Drake and his team can even flip an already great pop song...

...into an even bigger pop song.

And he does this consistently. Throughout all of his major releases.

That's why he's going to be tough to dethrone...

but, it's starting already...

WATTBA was the first release by him that had some truelly sloppy songwriting.

Man....what?

The problem with your seriously flawed logic is you're giving him credit for building songs when he has reference tracks. Meaning, he needs training wheels for even the most basic aspect of song creation.

And you gave him credit for stealing, borrowing, whatever "Hotline Bling". Like it took some kinda special talent.

This is rap. Rappers are expected to write their own shyt. If they want to be taken seriously I mean. If you're telling me he's in the Puffy Daddy lane, so be it. Hell, that's not even accurate because he doesn't produce.

There has been rappers that wrote their own shyt, excelled in song creation, and produced on top of that, like Quik. So why is the bar so low for Drake? Stop acting like he's Quincy Jones.

Thanks breh :salute:

I'm on one definitely makes the cut.
that was the song I was looking for originally.

nikkas in paris/Otis should also be on there

There's also a strong case for a DJ mustard track and Bands to make her dance/throw it up.

I was also stuck on picking which kendrick song that could make the cut. Looking between swimming pools, bytch don't kill my vibe, backseat freestyle, and money trees. Or maybe something Section 80.

Thing is he's not a big singles guy, you know? His lane is more in constructing ambitious and complex albums. That's what his legacy has been so far. Pushing HipHop albums to the next level. shyt you know how many GKMC clones have dropped in the last three years? On album list he's at the top.

No started from the bottom :what:
Peso nikka :what:

Started from the bottom is a little too recent. We don't know what Drake song from his post-take care era is going to have that lasting impact just yet.

It could very well be started from the bottom. But it could also be 0-100, know yourself, Hotline Bling, etc.
