You're way off with this. Without those artists and the classic albums they dropped rap wouldn't be the biggest and most influential genre/culture in the world right now, and arguably in the history of music, and Jay is at the forefront of all of that.

How can you even compare them? Jay Z's era was before the internet was even remotely as huge as it is. Yet he was still famous and bigger than Drake was. So people talked about him more than they talk about Drake today.

You exaggerate this. What's unique about Drake is how continuous his presence has been. He didn't take any Frank Ocean sabbaticals, he didn't have commercial flops (even though I don't think Views is good), artists/peers remix and freestyle off his beats (Marvin's Room etc.). I'm talking a qualitative sense that Drake is saturating this lane more than anyone in recent times. I question his ability to craft a classic album, but Drake can very casually put out songs that make waves at a tempo that's new to rap.

I don't know what's funny about that. Besides the eye test I'll just leave this here...

Study: Hip-hop is more important than The Beatles - CNN.com

(CNN) "Forget The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, the most important development in pop music in the past half century is hip-hop.

That's not an opinion, it's fact -- backed up by hard data, says a team of researchers from two London universities.
In a study published Wednesday in the journal Royal Society Open Science, the researchers say they threw out "musical lore and aesthetic judgment" in favor of scientific rigor."

Old white people are doing studies that set out to prove the most influential and important musical genre and coming up with hip-hop and actually admitting it to major media outlets.

50 mixtape grind was the last genre changing event in Hiphop. That is a fact.
You're forgetting about the trap genre. Specifically young thugs grind. He made mumbling over a trap beat cool and popular to do. Lots of people wouldn't be here without him. Madeintyo, Lil Uzi Vert, Desiigner, etc. Future also impacted the trap game with his mixtapes and especially his DS2 album.

And Jay Z didn't saturate his line?
You think Drake is more popular than Jay Z?

You said there's no fever around Jay dropping a new project, not only is there fever around him dropping a new project there's fever around him dropping 1 verse.

And rap is dictated by internet nerds on message boards now, I don't even know real street dudes who have time to discuss music on a regular basis anymore and the people I know who get excited over Drake's music in real life to the point that they actually discuss it are straight noodles or chicks.
No there is no fever from the people the tastemakers of rap 16-23 year olds.

and Im not talking about street dudes

But women and young men that are out and about and social determine whats popping in rap.

If it was up message boards Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick and rappers from the 90s would still be the most popular

i dont think Jay has much to worry about with drake considering he just dropped two records out of the blue and one of them shut the internet down....jay his whole career was never the "biggest" artist during any year during his run, he always played the steady game, he's consistent and is the tortoise in the race basically...he'll never have to worry about drake, when drake is 20 years deep then we can talk
