Oh damn, it’s really been 5 years? Damn time is flying. I guess Hot shyt, WAP, UP we’re just loosies but it still pretty surprising with some of those other artists that are on there.
my bad 2018...and yea, she wasted Up and WAP--- at least should've had a little EP. I'm not much of a Cardi fan but even I loved the fun bounce Up had

Summer Walker is definitely more Keyshia Cole than Ashanti who had major mainstream success, songs that could be played 10 years from now in all white establishments.

Summer is far more in the classic Rnb lane she’s got the women in the palm of her hands but she’s more in that Keyshia Cole lane the level just below true stardom that the likes of Ashanti Alicia Keys were achieving during the same time.

Summer came out 30 years ago would have been in that Mary J lane but she still needs era defining hits that the likes of Ella Mai and SZA have had in the last 5 years.

This.

Gen Z/tik tok era loves Pac. I work with youth and he’s the only 90s rapper that they really fukk with. He’s had somewhat of a resurgence recently due to them. Also helps that his music aged well
yeah Pac gets heavy love among the young nikkas, he is basiclly the only 90s rapper next to wayne(he is a 90s rapper whether people realize it or not) and em(whites)

who gets play

I don't why we're picking on Jay. He doesn't resonate with the youth and women, like Pac, so he's not on here. Women still love Pac and the youth look up to him and wanna be like him. What other legacy rap acts are on this list? Eminem? Well that's an easy one lol

i agree , i expected Outkast on here bu their not present.

i do think the Jay pushback comes from all the hype of how the media and entities within media and hip hop media make Jay to be so above and beyond everybody that they try to portray him like hes Michael Jackson of rap.

for a obvious example of what im referring to just look at The Joe Budden podcast and how they talk about Jay.
plus theres also the jay vs nas underlining tone to all this:lolbron:

and it would be remiss of me to say that its interesting to see how as much as people make it out that Jay is so huge and bigger than Nas. He isnt on here:mjgrin:

Jay is barely anymore popular than Nas among people my age and younger.

I don’t know why y’all keep saying only women and the youth bumps PAC’s music. I know plenty of older heads and my age who bumps PAC’s music like it’s a religion.

Shocked not to see Outkast on there and other NY rappers.

Pacs music is timeless along with MJ Fleetwood Mac and the other artists from 20+ years ago

If Mary J Blige is the comparison for Summer, I'd say someone like Mariah Carey is the comparison for SZA. None of this is directly 1:1 but SZA has crossed over far more than Summer, clearly is the bigger artist and has the most potential to take that next step. Whether she takes that next step is another matter. The singles she's dropped so far have been hits, but her behavior and TDE's incompetence are issues. She admitted her new single was supposed to come out last week but she nixed it because she noticed a small issue with the video. That type of weirdo shyt is clearly holding her back and I'm not sure where she goes from here in this mental state.

Beyonce, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, etc all put in the work early. Massive tour? Do it. Endless radio promo? Do it. Meeting with DJs and program directors? Do it. I recognize it's a different era today but becoming a pop superstar still requires playing the game. The label has been playing it for her so far, getting her these huge features (Kendrick/Black Panther, Justin Timberlake, Doja, etc) but is she capable of working for an entire year? Videos, release day promo, late night TV appearance, tour, awards season etc? Or is she going to have a breakdown over a minor inconvenience and blow everything up?
