“Substance” is just an excuse that rap nerds use to hate on rappers that they don’t like. Those same people that complain about a rapper’s lack of “substance” will turn around and d#ckride acts like Griselda and Pusha T all day. And their excuse is always, “Bu, bu, but they sound dope.”
It’s also a way to prop up conscious and backpack rap

Who cares about this guy's bum ass opinion. I don't think Wayne is anywhere close to GOAT, but he's nice as fukk. His issue is that he's just been inconsistent when it comes to quality.

Who the fukk cares about substance when he's dropping verses like this

:dj2:

Dumb argument IMO

My counter would be that I loved Fukk The World, should listen to that again, it's been years, and some of the more experimental tracks on Carter 3, not to mention

Something You Forgot
Trouble
Pray To The World
Dying
I'm Me

in that 2007 era, I played these everyday

Wayne has CLASSICS, but all of those are 15 years old. I get it that it's his lane, but he HAS NOT matured into a Jay or Nas like figure for his era, like an elder statesman. He's a goofball. His music and content feels like it's from 2009.

I used to think like that when I was 13 until I realized shyt doesn’t matter. There’s a spot for everyone. What type of perspective are you trying to get from someone who has spent their entire life being a famous rapper? All he has ever done is skate, rap, and watch espn. Doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best rappers to ever do it.

Aside from that, J cole has never made a song as good as Georgia bush, cry out, and plenty of other ones that have already been posted in this thread. Awful take :scust:

Honestly, and I'm not even a Wayne fan like that, C5 has plenty of substance. That album was basically his 4:44 albeit not as good. It's his only album that's generally full of depth and his perspective on life.

For other Wayne albums, it's true that they're generally just Wayne doing punchline and stream of consciousness rap about p*ssy, money, and drugs. But he did have some occasional songs with substance like Tie My Hands, Grown Man, I Miss My Dawgs, Georgia Bush, etc. Dr. Carter was also a pretty good concept record.

The best thing Wayne can do is make C6 a personalized album like C5 but without the bloated tracklist and better production.

“That’s why I listen to jay z, Nas, 2pac”

:mjlol: typical old flabby head…stopped listening to rap in 97 but still try to force their jaded and biased opinions on people

Wayne is 40 years old. :gucci:

These Coli threads where grown men argue about middle aged rappers while trying to convince people they're still young are wild.

Y’all gotta define what y’all mean by substantive becuz that could really mean different things to different people when it comes to music

From what I can gather over the years it’s 2 things

1.
“dropping jewels/gems” basic confirmation bias that people think is deep

This is what @re'up is giving props to Nas and Jay z for

Stuff like “invest your money don’t blow it on jewelry”

“Live life free and make every meaningful”

2. It’s any rap that isn’t the typical street and balling raps

So if you’re talking about going through something or the ills of society

Age has nothing to do with being old and FLABBY..it means your out of touch and still stuck in the year 1996 so you can’t even critique the music you are hating on

This like the guy in the barbershop who will chime in when nikkas are talking about lil baby new album …with some off the wall shyt about how rakim used to grab the mic from the performer and shut down the clubs in 1988 and he was in attendance so that’s why he not feeling the lil baby album
