Kobe is the greatest player of the era because he not only was THE guy on two championship teams. He was the dude who sacrificed his talent to make his team successful for three other championships. I don't care what any revisionist ass nikka says the lakers would have not got passed the Kings or Spurs without Kobe in the three peat years.

Y'all nikkas just hating you know it's true lol.

Kobe is consistently ranked higher than Duncan because there really hasn't been a decline in his production. He's putting up 27/5/5.5, which is right in line with what he's been doing since 2000.

Duncan has been playing under 30 mpg for a few years and hasn't averaged 20 ppg since the '06/07 season. Everyone respects him as an all-time great, but he hasn't matched Kobe's production over the course of their careers.

He is to Kobe, what Kareem is to MJ.

Great bigs are constantly disrespected.

Except Kobe and Duncan are from the same era while Mike and Kareem aren't. It's no disrespect to Kareem to say that Mike is better. On the other hand it is disrespectful to Duncan when people ignore him to call Kobe the greatest of his era. Kobe has 1 more ring, but Duncan has 1 more MVP and 1 more finals MVP. He's also considered the goat at his position.

nah see.. its because of his decline...

but Bryant's numbers are pretty the same

its hard to remember someone who is not on the front page for putting up big numbers anymore...

none can deny the black mamba

If Duncan played the same amount of minutes his numbers would still be the same or at least close. But we know it's never been about that with Tim.

Duncan is also a much more unselfish team oriented player. Some of Kobe's production comes at the expense of his teammates.

If I had to start a franchise right now and my choice between an 18 year old Kobe or Duncan, I'd take Duncan 10 times out of 10.

Duncan has sacrificed his whole career. He's never attempted more than 18 shots per game even at his peak even though he clearly could have demanded 20 shots a night. He's been the foundation of a Spurs team that has been through 3 different iterations without missing a beat. He's been a force defensively and on the boards and allowed TP to ascend. His impact can't be quantified by numbers. He's been a great leader. He's been the key to Pop being able to get other guys to sacrifice and put the team first. Only reason he's not recognized is because he's a lame and plays in SA.

Pretty much.

And for Wade, he's been playing against Kobe since '04. Duncan did a lot of his damage before that time, and Kobe did more after.

There is a difference however. Kobe has CONTINUALLY dominated Duncan when their teams have faced in the playoffs. With 5 rings (many earned while defeating the Spurs) I don't think its that arguable that Kobe is the more accomplished player.

By the end of their careers, Kobe will statistically be far out ahead. He'll probably have more titles. Duncan's only saving grace will be that he has 1 more MVP/Finals MVP than Kobe. However, we all know that Duncan got many of those individual accolades in the early 00s because Kobe and Shaq played together. If they hadn't, he woulda probably never won MVP over either of them.
