Any game with an nfl license is going to do numbers at least in the US because the selling point of an nfl football game is the nfl not the game studio.

If EA released a non madden football game with no nfl license that shyt would brick harder than james harden in game 7

I think at this point, anything else with the license that does a halfway decent job and simply uses a physics-based engine instead of pre-generated animations could likely crush Madden to near death.

The simple existence of adequate competition would, at barest minimum, force Madden to improve noticeably. Because the product is consistently bad, but survives because it's the only game in town.

Bought every Madden from 02-18, and haven’t missed that bullshyt since I quit playing I used to think it could make a difference some day, but I know Madden and 2k is crack rock for mfs. They gonna do whatever they wanna do till the day gaming dies.

NFL approached EA (possibly 2k and others too) and EA ponied up the money way back in '06 or whenever the deal was done.

Madden was, not coincidentally, at it's best RIGHT BEFORE the exclusivity kicked in. Errbody loved them 2004, 2005 Madden games. It slowly started moving downhill but became more apparent in the last 2 or 3 game generations. Basically from late PS3/360 onwards.

Used to play it like crazy but then started on Elder Scrolls thanks to girlfriend turned wifey. RPG/Adventure/Action games...she got me on that shyt and sports games kinda lost their shine. Fun to play but they don't hold my attention anymore.
