That record is the tree that fell in the woods and nobody heard. Did it really make a sound?:russ:

NY founded rap :umad:

On top of that NY has the best golden era and the most classics. If you really looking for a reason to be mad most southern rap vets started out inspired by NY rappers as per their own words.

Not really.

My fav artist is Rakim and Im from the Bay.

Yet you just named off a genre of music more affiliated with Mob Music.

You got Heiro, Zion I, Planet Asia, Blackalious, Lyrics Born and plenty of other rappers from the Bay that get overlooked.

But no, not everybody from the Bay is biased to Bay rappers.

ok was just using yall as a general example that folks prefer music from their region because it's reflects familiar lifestyle, slang, attitudes, etc.... but is it an absolute? nah

i know the bay isn't a monolith my G. i used mob music rappers when referencing bay artists it's because they're the most popular from your town. lyrics born and planet asia would be nyc's cannibal ox & company flow. you really think vast aire and el-p are as popular as lloyd banks and fabolous? nah, same goes for planet asia vs mac dre

lol blowfly dropped this in 1981 bro, hip hop was born 8 years prior on sedgewick & cedar in the bronx

certainly there were influences. there were black soul artists as far back as the 30's and 40's who dabbled in spoken word to music. you hear it like oh shyt, them nikkas are rapping! lol

but hip hop music as we know it today. braggadocious spoken word over drums, loops & breaks with call & response elements to move the crowd started in new york city. it ain't to stunt on anybody but because it's facts

This is laughable considering none of the actual dope southern artists were relevant when the South started blowing up... It's fukked up that the cats from the 90's that were slept on didn't really get any of that fame/love instead we had random trash that didn't deserve it. It's fukked up that dope cats like ugk, goodie mob, south circle, Scarface, odd squad, eightball & mjg, etc... were essentially putting their time in on that slot machine trying to win and then once their primes were over seemingly every mediocre southern rapper came by jumped on that same slot machine and hit the jackpot on the 1st try... OutKast were the only one of the original southern rappers from the 90s who won.

I've always been an east coast hip-hop cart but I fukked with west coast & southern rappers that I found dope, sadly in the 90s the south wasn't given a fair shake despite them having actual ill MC's unlike the wack dudes that took over hip-hop in the mid 2000's.
