Just get rid of the conference playoff system all together. Reward the regular season winners of each conference with the top 2 seeds and rank the remaining playoff teams based on wins. The Eastern and Western conference champs will be based on their regular season record.

Like I said before the Eastern Conference teams keeps dealing with injuries that prevented from being competitive. Heat had the personnel to take the Cavs Eastern title but we lost Bosh after all-star break, then Whiteside was done for the season after he bruised his knee. Bulls were dealing with similar problems with their players and Raptors lost Val in the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Heat and the Bulls just have been unlucky to compete in the conference finals. Raptors was going through a shooting slump and lost their best front-court player . Injuries kept those teams from being an equal match up with Cavs.

Even in the 2000s it wasn't this lopsided. East still had Kidd, Vince, iverson, McGrady, Dwight, Bron, Broke down Jordan, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, wade etc.

When Shaq came to the Lakers after Jordan retired, it was the beginning of the end for the East. Pistons and Heat saved them from COMPLETE mediocrity but that's been it. LOL

Scheduling is the issue.

A team like Minny or Memphis would be like "if conference doesn't matter why we gotta play the West all the time while Milwaukee can get fat off Philly and Brooklyn?"

Honestly, they can keep the schedules as is. Yes, a couple western conference teams might not make the playoffs while a couple east teams do because of the easier opponents, but the bottom 3-4 teams aren't beating the true contenders regardless. No one's gonna shed tears because Chicago and Washington make the playoffs over Houston and Memphis. The outcome in the postseason is gonna be the same in the first round.

But the Bulls beat every team that kame out of the west too. The west won 6 of 9 finals from 2000 to 2009. Without lebron/wade/bosh/allen super squad the east would have no titles in 2012-2013
