:manny: I think this is because he called Childish Gambino’s song overrated while he never made a song like that. Even Eminem spoke on those same issues.
This, I can agree with.

That was the main reason people went at Drakes neck when he released "Started From The Bottom"
Lyrically what did childish say in that song about black issue?

Also, started from the bottom was 10+ years ago. Drake was a semi famous actor but dudes act like he legit became a superstar overnight

People really expect a bozo who makes music with zero substance to speak on real life issues?
:unimpressed:

Exactly. Why would anyone ever expect or want social commentary from this guy:

Drake is not a deep thinker/artist, he's a pop star who makes disposable music

Ebro is overcompensating for being a half white corporate shill (literally gets paid from two of the biggest companies in music). These guys will come at Drake, but big up Jay-Z who sells poison to the community, tried to get poor black folks to throw away their money on bitcoin, and shills for the NFL.

When Harry Belafonte called him out:

“I’m offended by that because first of all, and this is going to sound arrogant, but my presence is charity. Just who I am,” he said. “Just like Obama’s is. Obama provides hope. Whether he does anything, the hope that he provides for a nation, and outside of America is enough.”

That’s worse than not saying anything at all

We don't need that Canadian cornball speaking on what's going on with Black Americans. So he's doing the right thing and not speaking on our issues.

And people still lost out here looking for celebrities to speak on our issues.

The video was all you needed to see to explain everything. If you want a deeper meaning look up the lyrics and what they are about.

This dumber than the "WHERE'S JA" scenario Dave talked about... Drake is half-black from not-America only here to make money and eat of what parts of the culture he wants to borrow, and anything he doesn't want to use he can fall back on Canadian culture. Or Jamaican culture. Or British culture. Or any other number of places he throws over his shoulders and wears temporarily like an outfit before he gets tired of it and moves on. This is not a man seeking to maintain any identity, especially not a potentially contentious one that might fukk up his American money machine by doing something as overt as taking a side.

Especially since any side he takes would involve taking that position against himself, as most of the shyt we'd want him to talk about for black folk... would just be deriding his other half. Or his Northern allegiance. Or, would just be brushed off as 'what does he know, he doesn't even go here'.

We really think we want Drake speaking for black folk when even educated black people in other entertainment mediums get the equivalent of 'shut up and dribble' the second they say shyt. Drake surviving by keeping his head down and not drawing the one bit of ire that'll lead to that one thinkpiece that could go viral and fukk up his album rollout.

Mans hanging on by a thread because he'd light and makes songs for these women enough that the 'misogynoir' that is screamed about any time a nikka so much as breathe on the internet doesn't get leveled at him. But he just keeping his head above that wave by keeping his mouth shut. So... he not finna open that bytch for nothing.

Ebro should have some heat for these rappers that come out actively against black interest while also being guests in black culture. How about that. How about some heat for Lil Pump saying nikka more than most black folk I know, then jumping on stage with Trump'n'em and openly mocking the idea that music maybe can be for something more than just talmbout shooting guns at nikkas and skeet at hos. In a different era; Drake should say something. But it's a crapshoot if him saying anything would do more harm than good. So... perfectly fine with Aubrey keeping his goddamned mouth shut.

They ignored Kaepernick's whole point and tried to invalidate it off-rip because he was adopted by white folk and happened to be getting paid a mid-line QB salary in the NFL. You think anything Drake say gonna penetrate the ears of people who ain't tryna hear it knowing he literally wasn't raised here, and wouldn't have had a typical black American experience even if he was because... that's not who he is.

Drake and most black celebrities dont need to broadcast every donation/support...

I'd rather for them to not say anything at all and handle things behind the scenes..

With all that said, Ebro needs to STFU and put his money where his mouth is.
