You’re several years late on this lol. Drake is who he is at this point. You’re not getting social commentary from that man. People will complain about shyt like this while completely freezing out rappers that do speak out. It’s funny to me.
Why do we need social commentary from rappers?

Why not? So you just want to hear the same boring materialistic music over and over again? You don’t want musicians talk about real life issues? It’s not a new thing, artists of the past have done it before.

Yes, they’re entertainers. I don’t need social commentary from them.

What can they say about social commentary that we don’t already know through experience?

I didn’t say I needed social commentary. I know you’re the Drake guy.. I’m saying why expect that from Drake now when he’s never done it. Let Drake be Drake. There’s plenty rappers giving social commentary.

This is outside of Drake I’m wondering why anyone desires social commentary from rappers.

They're not above anyone, they are also affected by politics believe it or not. That's why some talk about it.

Right, there's a bunch of things plaguing Black Americans is a socio-political sense that can be touched on by a rapper. It can also reach youth in a way other forms of media can't, they hear their favorite rapper speak about these things they might get active.

Rappers don't have to be MLK, it's just nice when they are actually in tune with the rest of us.

I don't mind when rappers chime into what's going on in the real world, some just want to listen to music without worrying about what's currently going on but the influence and reach they got it could help in the long run. It's the same when they also get involved with telling everyone to go vote. They're probably gonna say because Drake is Canadian he can't speak on anything but he's been a citizen for a long time already.

brothers are rapping non-stop in a celebratory way about drugs and violence and folk in here saying "I don't need social commentary in my raps", if the thread was about the anti-Blackness in rap, these same people will assure you that this same content celebrating Black death is social commentary, "they're just speaking to the realities they're living"
