It's likely tied to the marijuana grow, and I would think meth somehow too....rival clan/family, I'd assume.....Some backwoods blood feud sort of thing. I'd be interesting to know what stage of harvest the plants were in, if the killers took anything of value, or simple execution. I think the body count and planning indicates a serious personal/business grudge. This is like a 'Justified' plotline.
