rakim didnt need to return to past glory. he had a full run. nas didnt. plus nas returned to glory in a weaker era. and slaying jay-z in a battle is not a great accomplishment.

shoot, i'd say that rakim getting a good reception for the 18th letter was just as impressive of a comeback with all things considered. he came back and buzzed in a completely different world.

"life is good" a near classic??:scusthov:
What difference does that make? This isn't basketball. These guys aren't literally competing with one another. If you put out a great album, it doesn't matter if it's 1992 or 1996 or 2015 or 1908, it's still a great album.

As far as the thread goes, Nas is clearly better than Rakim, but not by any large margin. Nas is the GOAT.

Meanwhile, Nas is lasting in J-Cole, Lupe, and Kendrick's era

them dudes arent popular enough to have their name attached to an era. and lets not act like nas is really poppin like that either.

and this era aint chit. mainstream rap been dead.

like i said previously, you cant compare. back in the day, you had to really bring it in order to stay afloat. now its all politics & bullchit. most of the real hot nikkas are shut out of the game altogether. chit is like one big joke now.

when rap was real, it was a sport.

and youre right, great music is great music. but whens the last time nas dropped a great album? 14 years ago?

the fact yall try to argue that LIG is "great" just proves my point about weaker & stronger eras. in a respectable era, LIG is just a quality release.

Three years ago. And if LIG isn't great to you, then Untitled, Distant Relatives, and Hip Hop Is Dead all would have been very good to great albums during any era, just like they were during the eras they were released.

And if we're going by that logic, then Rakim shouldn't even be in consideration.

Those albums would of been considered mediocre albums during the Golden Era(87-96).

And after 1992, was Rakim even semi-relevant at all? Like I said nikka only had a 7 year career

Nas came in the game in the game in 1991. And by 2001, he was on top of the game with a classic like Stillmatic. And in 2012, 21 years in the game, already released an excellent collabo album in Distant Relatives, and his own album in Life is Good

And I'm a fan of Rakim. But he ain't been on anyone's radar since Don't Sweat the Technique

:usure:Rakim on late night in 97...Keenan Ivory Wayans Show.

The 18th Letter went Gold in 97 and sold more than Don't Sweat The Technique.:sas2:

So you only gonna highlight the last sentence, or are you gonna address all of what I said? :sas2:

Rakim's always on my radar cause he's Rakim. I loved his last album, bump it very often, know mad people who fukked with it heavy, different demographics too.

I haven't been debating you on who had a longer relevance in the mainstream corporate machine. I just countered your mention that Rakim not being relevant after 92:manny:

24 years of relevancy to about 10 years, the win goes to Nas

Rakim's best 4 albums are not better than Nas'

Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, God's Son >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything Rakim has ever put out
