you know what, thats fair

with that statement, I went by boxing historians and Larry Holmes who fought both of them.

Mad props for Holmes. Highly underrated champ, but its human nature to ride with your peers and champs from your era(like historians do, still won't give Chicken Roy the props he deserve)

But yeah, I know a lot of designated boxing historians like to say Foreman, Earnie Shavers, etc hit harder than Mike. At the same time, I think its human nature to ride with nostalgia...since it was the golden era of boxing

No it is utter foolishness to dismiss concepts as irrelevant because we don't agree with them. If discussion was limited only to things with tangible proof, there would be a lot of quiet muthafukkas. :russ:

A QB with average at best numbers (for the time) and no SB ring would not still be starting for the team that drafted him at 37 in today's NFL, you know that as well as I do.

thats his point :why:

and he never said Elway couldnt play at 37 :mindblown:

What was he trying to say then?

:russ: at this entire post, and yet you are also :cape:ing Elway and dismissing stats. You are all over the place now. :lolbron:

it's exactly as he put it. You see what happened to McNabb toward the end of his career? The same thing would probably happen to Elway in this day and age.

and if Tommy Maddux was a good QB, it would have happened to Elway.

And thats not to say the Broncos would have been right or Elway sucked, but it would have happened.

shyt, Joe Montana was thrown into the bushes.

:what: :dwillhuh: You disagree with me but yet you post all of these things supporting my stance? :wtf: I didn't say anything about Elway's abilities. You reached on that one. I merely pointed to the fact that a guy with average numbers (for the time) and empty fingers would not have the chance that Elway did late in his career.

No I am not. You inferred Elway did not have the ability based on his "statistical performance" and that he would not play based on that.

I suggest that the economic model of today's NFL would have been the main factor, not his ability, because I actually saw him play unlike most of this board.

What is clearly different between Elway and this situation? :thiswork: This is a perfect example of arguing for the sake of arguing.

Absolutely not. Yall act like Denver had not already been to a couple of Super Bowls

And Young pushed Joe out of the way and I see how you conveniently did not mention that Joe missed 2 years with a messed up elbow.....

Matter of fact, the 49ers broke down and was willing to give Joe the starting QB position again when he got healthy but he told execs to blow him.

A lot of the reason why Joe left is because of his pride....San Fran just didn't throw him in the bushes like that.

right, so Denver selected Maddox in the first round just to give Elway some competition :stopitslime:

They anticipated dude was going to replace Elway.

And Young was brought in to eventually replace Montana.

1. They both hadn't won any rings but they led their teams deep in the playoffs repeatedly over the years.

2. They both have never put up amazing stats while they were doing these things.

Collins and Hasselbeck didn't start for the same reasons Elway did.

and :ohhh: I never knew that Denver originally drafted Tommy Maddox.

Live your own life
If only Marino could have been under center and turn his head behind him and see someone worth handing the ball off to during any point of his career.

If Dolphins had a great defense like the Ravens and Steelers, they could have won two superbowls during the prime of Marino's career.
