Not since the plan shifted to tanking, but previously, they were unable to establish themselves as a free agent destination... which is WHY they ended up fixing their gaze on the draft.

Don't be purposely stupid, it's a waste of my time.

:what:

They only had cap room once that I can remember after AI left and before Hinkie came in. That year they settled on Brand, with the other option being Josh Smith. When they had AI, they rarely had cap space because they kept trading for bad contracts.

The fact this came out right before the draft... wouldn't surprise me in the least bit of some master plan from Hinkle. They wouldnt of put out this info or let it leaked unless they wanted to. Could maybe put the stop to the Lakers drafting Russell then trying to trade him to us for Okafor AND their pick next year back (kinda what we did to Orlando last year) since we now have a "need" for a big man. Best case scenario: this is getting overblown, we draft Russell, embiid plays this season and everything is legit

Damn my Breh your actually on to something I didn't think about that angle this could possibly just be an additional smoke screen because it would make the Lakers think twice about pulling a power move involving Russell.

Greg Oden part deux. He'll miss most of the year, but his "potential" will tease Philly fans enough for them to tolerate another bad season.

Well, they were trading for bad deals, because they were also trying to unload bad deals.

The brand deal was horrible.
They also gave dalembert too much money, then flipped him for Hawes/nocioni and then extended hawes
Gave kwame a 2 year deal

They have never been considered a destination of choice by any free agent, and as a result, spent time churning bad deals with trades.

So now they're going the other direction... and they've committed to it. If they're still ass two years from now... I'm sure people will get fired.

it's not like they had a chance to take Wiggins or Parker, they just got fukked. They knew they werent gonna be shyt this past season so the logic was sound.

I agree, but not having cap space is part of the reason why they have never been considered a destination of choice by any free agent. What's funny is now they have the cap space, but are unwilling to spend it right now.

Yeah, but the reason they're not spending now is:

1) there isn't a free agent available to them that makes sense (Gasol/LMA aren't leaving their teams, and if they did wouldn't go to philly)
2) Once you've decided to go this route, you can't randomly start signing middling free agents... and fukk up your top 3 pick locks.
