Eminem got clout, right? So why continue to go the Pop route with his music?

He has a slave deal clearly

He's also being marketed with 00s tactics, possibly cause his target audience still checks for CDs through the traditional platforms

Revival flopping will hopefully change that, or it won't :yeshrug:

There's also no Hip Hop cultural component to his rollouts (used to be pop star beefs, gimmick lead singles...now it's 'Murica!!). No interviews with cultural outlets, no appearances, no hype outside of major label approved power moves etc

Nor is there a musical component. No behind the scenes, making of type-media out there. Either because the process is bland and uninteresting, or because they want to hide the real Marshall from us, clearly

Very top-down, machine driven, with little transparency. Very unlike the way rappers get promoted in 2018

Yeah. Good and interesting points.

Great points, Em himself spoke on this all way back with The Way I Am and has eluded to being a corporate puppet numerous times. In many ways he's just going through the motions whilst Interscope pulls the strings like this:

Gotta keep the Great White Hope alive!

Also really on point. He always had a problem with good subject matter, but shyt that felt cutting edge in 99-00 is outdated as fukk now.

He doesn't want Relapse to happen again. But then Revival happened so I don't know what his next move is.

The problem with Relapse was it was it was him trying to go back to 2000 like The Marshall Mathers LP.
The only reason that album gained interest was cause it'd been 5 years since his last solo release and then given his story with drugs.
But Revival, Recovery and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 have all been some of the most bland and generic albums.
Revival was the most puzzling album he's ever done.

I read a comment on the net that made a good point - he's making music for large festivals and tour runs, particularly overseas concerts. This is music to pander to packed European crowds and I think there's a lot of truth to that.

Also, dude is just an aging out of touch sellout. That happens when you gain vast wealth and success. He doesn't give a fukk about the culture he started in, lol. He cares about money. He gets his money appeasing his mainstream fans, particularly the younger, newer fans, cuz those are the kids who buy music on itunes and shyt. Probably the same fans who got into him during Recovery and MMLP2. These are the same kids who have no clue who Primo or Alchemist are.

The real funny thing is I remember Em doing an online interview for fans when he was still kinda underground but had signed with Dre, where he alluded to Nas selling out with It Was Written. Christ, time and history redeemed Nasir like a motherfukker. I would fukking love for 2018 Marshall to say that shyt. Wonder what 98 Marshall would think of 2018 Marshall, for that matter.

Also, he did do a song with Reggie way back in the day.

SO why would he sign acts like Conway and Westside Gunn if he was out of touch or didn't care?

It's because he doesn't have any clout, he's basically a controlled artist by the label. That Chloraseptic remix was damage control and him saving face for the fukk up album we call Revival.

Money....and he really doesn’t care anymore

Even at this stage in his career, he'll still sell even if he dropped a straight up Hip Hop album with no Pop shyt.
Besides he good with money anyway; what he makes now is just more change to whatever the fukk he already got.

True but to do a hip hop album would be to change the formula and would need EFFORT.....I think he’d rather continue to make money not havin to try.

Good point. All I'm gonna say is let's hope he doesn't executive produce any of their future albums, cuz the shyts will be garbage. Look what happened with that Slaughterhouse album on Shady.

I guess he does care to an extent (like his reaction to Revival hate on the Chloreseptic remix). I dunno, maybe he just fell the fukk off then.

But his played formula is so played and old now.
Before it was doing goofy ass/silly singles for his 1st singles, now the past few years it's been relationship singles.
He need somebody like Premier and Alchemist to just hook him up with some great beats so he can just get in the booth and spit some shyt.
The minute he would hear them beats, he stopped writing that bland shyt he been writing.
He need some beats that knock and have a heads nodding.

It's 2018, not 2000, that formula he used to have is played and the new formula he been running with since 2010 ain't working either.

He was the modern day Frankenstein for the machine. With hip hop going on a different level beyond his strengths in the game, he's just a product of past suburban teenagers and "real:mjpls: hip hop" fans.

It's unfortunate because dude clearly sounds better on some jazzy production, but it's clear that he's a slave to the master:ld:
