Then why is he the #1 most prefered rapper of the average rap consumer if his lyricism is so complex and hard to understand?

Eminem was huge back in the day because he was a novelty

stop it...you've been on some mission to tarnish the goat's name around here for some time now...cut it out...

breh.. nas doesn't have a verse better than renegade. i listen to nas all the time. illmatic, stillmatic, IWW, God's Son, Untitled, he's in my top 10. just not above em. he's overrated on here. when you look at it from a realistic point of view, his discography is shaky. like 50% filler!! to me anyway. and em has blacked on wayyyyy too many tracks for me to say he's better than em

Even then Nas got unreleased shyt that can match Em in multis

nas can hang with the best when it comes to multies if he wants but that was never his focus like eminem. eminem is a famous version of rhymeking so he'll always beat nas at multies. at the same time you're not gonna get "window pain/shyt in the toilet" lyrics from nas.

it was monkey flip em which is a wrestling move... he also referenced the wwf on it aint hard to tell. illmatic does lack cohesive lyrics/ideas here and there especially on the rappity rap songs but there aren't any terribly forced puns on illmatic.

and the cheetah line wasn't meant to be some word play marvel, it was meant to be descriptive.

FINALLY. A naS stan willing to admit the most obvious shyt ever. The nikka was just throwin shyt together because it rhymed. And they werent anything special as you also point out. IWW was just a much better effort in every way. illmatic is simply unlistenable.

as far as flow, multi's, and rhyme schemes, absolutely. His wordplay was always corny to me, though.

I don't know if there's a GOAT, but when I think about the best technical rappers ever, these come to mind:

Em
Lupe
Elzhi
Black Thought
G Rap
AZ
Big Pun
