Criminal Minded is obviously immortalised. But you can't say it sounds good today. It doesn't, and certainly not better than MMLP sonically.
So people using that argument to shyt on MMLP aren't really going anywhere because I can find more dated albums. I think the main critique is the nature of Em's music and how it is relatable (or not) especially to the originators of hip-hop culture. But again, you can't deny its quality as an album. It isn't a coliclassic, but still a classic lol.

You need to make a thread about what the terms "dated" or "didn't age well" mean. It's like classic where everybody uses it and uses it to fit whatever they want it to mean at the time.
Criminal Minded still sounds amazing to me today. MMLP I haven't listened to in probably 15 years. I've been meaning to revisit it. It's sitting on the computer, I gotta burn it on a CD for the car.
If dated just means, doesn't sound like the current mainstream hip hip sound, then they are both dated. So is every album from the 80s-90s. But that can t be what it means, it's supposed to be a negative thing. MMLP is dated. Supreme Clientele is not.

but I said sonically dated. I mean what else could it be? Conceptually? That doesn't matter really and Em's is not conceptually dated more so than conceptually cac
but sonically you can argue 2001 by Dre aged really well or Doggystyle to a certain extent or Jay's The Blueprint or All Eyez on Me and so on. So I never bought in to the dated argument because like you said, it's natural that over time most albums will become sonically dated.
what criticisms could you make against MMLP not being a classic though? people ITT saying 'no' because either it is dated or because of the nature of its content. I'm arguing that you cannot use 'dated' as an argument, unless you mean it isn't relevant anymore but that's not really true in comparison to other albums which are still heralded as classics.

Thats true, they are trying to sound appealing to the masses, I can understand someone like Redman liking Eminem because he was kind of one of em's inspirations. But damn when they are praising eminem oh he's a lyricists lyricist and shyt like that we know damn well they are not listening to his ugly put production music, in fact a lot of those legends from lets say 80s they must be listening to 70s music most of the time. Every person loves listening to music that they grew up with, damn sure they ain't gonna relate to anything em has to say besides listening to the technical part of his rapping.
I wouldnt be surprised if white people dont listen to his music that much either, most of them secretly listen to gangsta rap and all that violence because they never been in the ghetto, there is a reason why gangsta rap got so popular in the 90s.
