I'm sitting here like
at people in here defending Relapse in any capacity. Eminem was once my favorite rapper circa 01-02, and anyone pretending that he's released an album worth listening to for more than 3 or 4 songs max since 2002 must be a bigger fan than I thought possible. Em these days does either a bunch of yelling, forces those corny young money type punchlines, or does a bunch of technically sound rapping that has lost its shock value or is just saying nothing at all.
Its getting annoying hearing the "It was a concept album" as if that somehow makes it any better. Em truly is a rap version of South Park in terms of how when you are younger and more impressionable, it all seems the height of genius and great work. But as you grow, it diminishes. The thing with Eminem is that he never has changed from the times. I remember how awkward it was hearing dated "Christopher Reeves" " Jessica Simpson",etc lines even in 2009...
He just needs to retire. I am beginning to wonder if Paul Rosenburg is really unintentionally blocking any creative material that has a chance of being inside his head. It always seems everything is through Paul's mouth and you sometimes forget who the "artist" is , and wonder if it is Paul who is making this nonsense continue. He is like a puppet with no thinking outside the box at all or being able to do anything unconventional. Wait for someone in here to talk about his creativity in lyrics; Instead of discussing why he is one of the few mainstream artists from the past to not have actually showed ARTFORM instead of being "super technical" .
Robotic like.
Who knows maybe another reason could be due to him not having headline making stories in his life like he had in his prime.
He is gonna end up being the hip hop version of Elton John in terms of dragging out bad content and material instead of bowing out gracefully.
Its just sad.
