I swear people on the internet hate reading as if the concept itself took human form, flexed on and bullied them them every day and smashed every person they liked while making them watch.
Ending world hunger easily. There are millions and millions of potential scientists, artists, doctors, construction workers, etc. Who are dying due to starvation. There are wars starting as a result of higher food prices.
This is really a test to see if you care about yourself more than you care about humanity as a whole. I'm not surprised at the number of people that would take the money. I would take the money only if there was a chance I could change people's minds and I'm allowed to invest the money.
I'd be fine with being known as that guy who gave up the chance to solve world hunger for 20mil if I turned that 20mil into 2 bil and used 95% of that money to fund farmers, invest in food science, waste elimination and effectively eradicated world hunger by inspiring other billionaires to do the same. If that's not an option but I can just snap my fingers somehow and fix the problem, I would.
People like Elon musk, Bill gates, Jeff bozos and the guy who owns Louis Vuitton could each take 50% of their wealth and pool it together to give to organizations making good progress with tackling climate change, disease and hunger. They wake up every day knowing they can do this but instead they'll do something fukking stupid like buying a failing news site or social media company.
The 44billion that idiot Elon musk spent to buy Twitter is SEVERAL times what most countries are putting into fighting climate change and homelessness. 4 guys could all just agree to spend 50% of their wealth and that would be several hundred billion which could eliminate a lot of problems. They don't and we know that they have that power and it clearly doesn't affect them at all. They all walk around peacefully with no fear or shame.
