I don't know why older rappers always try to compare themselves with commercially HUGE rock legends.
The difference is that EPMD never had a top 10 album even. While The Beatles moved a billion records and has like 50 hits.

Your impact on popular culture had to be direct and huge for you to retain that relevance, that's why people like Dr. Dre and Snoop can headline coachella. Or like Outkast they could headline all these festivals last ear due to Speakerboxxx/TLB and Stankonia not due to the shyt to the better albums that came before that. Or why Eminem and Jay will be able to do tours and on. The same goes for artists from any genre, rockbands that were peaking at #50 20 years ago are not doing stadium tours in 2015. Those contemporary R&B cats might be active and having their occasional shows and shyt but that's cause their fans are off brand af.

Other than that, dope interview.

So because they never had a top 10 album they can't be legends?

If you listened to the interview you wouldn't need a detailed explanation unless you were severely handicapped.
I'll add the word huge for other imbecile nikkas.
