NBA teams know every possible thing about each team, their playbook and individual tendencies. Just because an NFL team got their hands on another teams playbook, that doesn't negate the fact that they still won most of their games every single year. They had advanced scouting, sure, but they still earned the wins.

Check out a book called "Take your eye off the ball." It has a section on how NFL teams prepare for a game. A playbook might have 1000 plays in it. No way in hell looking at 1000 plays is going to help you. But, if you get the list of the 25-50 plays that a team has been practicing to use that week, you have them by the balls. Teams use all kinds of throwaway distraction plays over the season and in practice, but if you have the 25-50 plays in their weekly game plan, you probably know 90% of what they're going to do. That's what the Patriots were fukking with.
