Starting today with our review of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, Eurogamer is making the biggest change we've ever made to the way we review games. From now on, we will no longer be scoring games out of ten.

In place of scores, we'll have one-line summaries for every review, and a new recommendation system whereby some, but not all games will be considered Recommended, Essential or Avoid. As a result of these changes, we will no longer be listed on the review-aggregation site Metacritic.

We are also changing (or firming up) other areas of our reviews policy, with the intention of ensuring that we always review the same experience that you get when you buy a game. This means that we will only review from final retail versions and online games will be reviewed after they've launched.

:whew:

The Order is saved.

LOL, your world about to be fukkED UP!
hahaha. Nah, I was just joking. You know how many review sites there are? This is gonna be bad for them. People click on reviews from metacritic. Being off metacritic is fukking stupid from a business standpoint.

These reviewers are just scared nowadays. No confidence with their reviews. Pathetic. Eurogamer and joystiq will just become obsolete.

If they do, then that'll be a different subject. I don't see that happening though at all. Most sites wanna be on metacritic. shyt's good for business. Plus, they're just replacing it with a worse system with three rankings. They should just write the review and then give a summary. They're trying to rate without rating. shyt's stupid. :camby:

If they wanna get rid of ratings, they should go all the way. Do it like rockpapershotgun. Not this recommended, essential, avoid bullshyt :camby:

See they're just trying to rate without rating. shytty :camby:

I would never trust one site for anything. Never.
They still are rating.

Not recommended, recommended, essential etc.

I think it's better than arbitrary "numbers".

This way it'll get people to actually know the state of games like Halo:MCC and not just blindly see a "8/10??! :leon:" and be stuck with a game that doesn't work for months.

They are just being scared. Numbers are king (I do run stats for a living though :ld:). This is a dumb move in my opinion. Too scared to give numbers to things. p*ssy.

The ideal system would give numbers to each aspect of a game (yeah, even more numbers). That would be the best system. Now reviewers are just gonna be lazy and stamp recommended on everything. :camby:

What I look like trusting one guy's "recommended" opinion on something? Who do these people think they are? Joystiq and eurogamer can get the boot :camby:

I trust rockpapershotgun, who doesn't give out numbers or qualitative ratings. They never did that shyt and always relied on words. These newcomers to this system are just scared.

As long as The Order and future PS4 games are given "recommended" or other vague ratings to hide their garbageness, I'm all for it.

:stopitslime: Joking.

I think that this is great for developers. So many people have bonuses attached to metacritic scores and that simply isn't right for a few select reviewers over the world holds the weight of fiscal prosperity. I've seen many a review where I've wondered aloud why is ________ reviewing a game. I've bought many games under an 8 or so and had a ball. Personally, I don't read reviews anymore. I've been doing this long enough to know what I like and don't like.

Do you know how many games come out each week? Metacritic exposes you to games you would never have heard about. Like I just bought this game called LISA on the pc that I never would of heard of if it wasn't for metacritic. It's dark as hell and right up my alley. I would NEVER of heard about it if it wasn't for metacritic.

Y'all are forgetting metacritic gives exposure to indies that you'd never hear about anywhere else. "Oh this game got an 85? Let me read about that and check it out." Without that shyt, we're just gonna be playing big name games that have humongous advertising budgets.

Without reviews, it's all gonna be based on advertising. fukk that shyt :camby:
