Not for these obscure indies. Plus, what I gotta do, read 150 reviews for games now (or even worse, just trust one review site)? I like to read positive, medium, and negative reviews of games. metacritic allows me to easily do that. Without numbers, I'm stuck reading 80 reviews or some bullshyt. I'm not making reading reviews my new hobby, and I'm not letting advertising influence my decision to buy a game either.
Metacritic is a great tool. I still have no idea why people hate it so much. It all started with Destiny. That shyt got reviews in the 70s and everybody turned on metacritic. Users don't even like that game either. I don't know what the big deal is.
If you don't like reviews, don't read em, and buy games based on hype. If that's your prerogative, then so be it. I for one love metacritic and use it as a tool to buy games. If it goes away, I'll just go buy steam reviews or user reviews (but it's much harder for me to trust those people).
I literally do not have time to read 100 reviews for a game. I don't think anybody does. You read glowing reviews, mediocre reviews, and bad reviews. That gives you a good idea of what that game is about. The number helps point you to a game you might have missed cuz it doesn't have a million dollar marketing budget. shyt is such a helpful tool. Why do people hate it so much?
