Crimea was historically a part of Russia until 1954 when it was transferred over to Ukraine as a symbolic gesture but also because of how close it was geographically to the Ukraine SSR administration. It's always been dominated by ethnic Russians, ranging from 50-70% Russian since the late 40s. It's not comparable to what Serbia might potentially do in Kosovo where the vast majority of its' citizens (over 90%) are ethnic Albanians; unless it's only the northern parts where they are predominantly Serbian and afaik never wanted to leave Serbia in the first place.
