:wow:
Beautiful beat :ohlawd:

I'm still digesting this album, a few songs that immediately loved and many that will take time for me to appreciate and a few that will probably never grow on me, like Vol. 1. I still prefer a more polished EV, but I respect his decision to take a more minimalist approach to his music, it's an artistic decision and he stuck to his guns. That being said EV is rapping very well on here, the way he raps he makes you listen to his every word and often you are rewarded with gems. I would just prefer more "happier" beats and this album is abit too dark for me at the moment

Favorite songs right now are:

Outta bounds (on repeat)
Nothing to see here

Laughing Last

Outta Bounds BTW is an ode to Live and Die in LA. Ev said the guitar is the same melody as the girl signing the hook on the Pac song. Even the music video is similar going around to different places in LA and filming, and Ev samples Pac saying "I love LA" at the end of Outta Bounds. And the video starts off with the Tupac Shakur star on the Walk of Fame.

Really good album. Makes me want to go back to ‘Weather Or Not’ after already revisiting ‘Step Brothers’ and that ‘Layover’ EP
Wather or Not is a good one. It's definitely my least favorite in his catalogue, but for a weird reason. It's banger after banger, big song after big song. But I heard him say it's made like a Greatest Hits album more so than an actual album, and that it was more a collection of songs over a 5 year time period that he put together. And it just ends on such a downer knowing what really happened after By My Side Too.

But some of my favorite songs are on that album, and Throw It All Away is my favorite Ev track. He doesn't have a single project under 4 mics, though. One of the best catalogues in the game. No misses.

Go back and listen to the I Don't Need Love project as well. It's not on streaming. If you need it I got you.

Top Seeded is one of the 2 songs I like. Just based on the first 2 listens, I only ran back only Top Seeded and Nothing's Perfect
Surprised you like so little of this if you fukk with Vol 1 at all. To me they're very similar in sound, besides the first one feeling a little bit darker. I will say that Vol 1 took a couple weeks to grow on me and I was kind of disappointed by it the first week.

It's really hard to have a lot of double meanings and gems when using simple words, and he does that well. That's a reason I've always liked emcees with slower flows. A lot of times rappers can hide some of their flaws behind faster flows.

I'll try and listen to them back to back in one sitting to see if I can put into words why 2 doesn't work for me and 1 does

You mean like Ev talking about unaliving himself? Man, I feel like this album is super optimistic and I get the exact opposite. Lots to live for. Make the most of each day. The album was marketed as being super optimistic and resilient themed.

What song? There are some bars about how it's better to fade away and just dip out instead of dragging out a goodbye. But IMO he's always had bars about the conflict between being hidden away and being in the public light. On Runners he said "Things I never thought about. Try to be elusive in the process got forgot about."

Might be my interpretation then...

Can't really name the tracks as i listen to the album as a whole without looking at the list so from memory i would go "one way to stay alive DON'T DIE","six milion ways to die i chose none". Could imply that he looks at life as a choice, which is not to say that hes discussing his own demise necessarily through this but more as something everybody could struggle with at some point.

Will say that i def disagree with the album being SUPER optimistic or maybe by EV standards but otherwise he's been through some things and i personally believe that can be felt through what hes putting out for the world...
