This project feels super artsy. Even more than the last one. And I really feel like Ev made this one for himself. Low key I get the vibe that he resents the fact that he has to release raps. I get the impression that he’d rather just produce. A lot of the bars on here hint at it. The lack of press. Almost feels like he’s just casually throwing this out there

Yeah I feel you on that take, the little samples and interludes etc. throughout speak to that as well. I guess that's him continuing this theme of unlearning, and as a result his music is getting more insular and less predictable.

I definitely wish some of these songs were longer for sure.

There’s a bonus track called Paint Pictures on 45’ produced by Conductor. It should hit online next week.

Definitely agree his stuff is less predictable. Vol 1 and 2 together on a playlist on shuffle really slaps.

He confirmed that there will be a vol 3 to close the series and that he’s probably producing all of it himself.

What’s your top 5 on here?

This is Evs best project off one listen. Great album
My only complaint, if I’d even word it like that is it’s a short listen. I realise in a ever growing market the attention span is simultaneously shrinking but 30 min on wax is steep.

I say all that to say this. fukkin love it, been following ev and dialated since day one and can’t wait to unpack this properly.

Criminal this ain’t stickied, give the man his props

They didn't sticky his last album despite a lot of people tagging mods and asking. They stickied his previous albums too. It was weird.

Yeah my only complaints here are I think Nothing's Perfect would be perfect with another verse. I could even hear that with Aloe Blacc singing on the hook or something.

I'd have liked Plans Change and Define Success to be a little longer too, but especially Nothing's Perfect.

This is an artsy ass project. In a good way. Feels real messy. Almost jazz influenced. A few samples feel jazzy too.

Agreed on all your takes, I think it’s a lot more cohesive than vol1 though and I think this vibe suits ev.

I can already tell this will be spinning in a vol1+vol2 shuffle playlist for many many spliffs to come

Beautiful production.

Evidence is like the closest equivalent to Guru IMO. He's improved a lot as a rapper, very distincive voice and monotone delivery. I never particularly enjoyed his rapping when he was with Dilated. Rakaa was always better, but he's really been able to hone his style as the years have went on and become a good rapper.

I like how these Unlearning albums are kinda like snapshots of where underground hip hop production is at. You've got bedrocks of that style like Ev, Alchemist and Sebb mixing with newer generations like Conductor and V Don.

I need to sit with it for longer bro, but at the moment it'd be "Future Memories", "Outta Bounds", "Favourite Injury", "Rain Every Season" and "Laughing Last". What about you?

This will stay in rotation for a minute. I might get 1 and 2 on shuffle like you suggested as well and just let them ride out.
