Nobody really thinks a $65 steak is worth it, and I'd imagine the best steak most of us have had did not come from a fancy establishment.

Truthfully you go to a steakhouse for the ambiance as much as for the food. You go because you're in the mood to dress up and feel pretentious for a night, or because you're celebrating a promotion or life event, or you're trying to impress someone who's impressed by grand expenditure, etc... etc...

They certainly have their place and I definitely enjoy it every so often.

Are they worth the $ ? I’ve never been

I can only speak for fogo de Chao but absolutely. $40ish for lunch/$60ish for dinner. They give you a lil thing that is like a stop side and you flip it to green if you want more, and red if you don't.

They just bring a constant selection of amazing meat to you. Great salad/meats/cheese/fruit selection.

Steaks besides the table side gets expensive; $100-150 for wagyu and $98 for dry aged, but they're meant for 4 people

It's all you can eat so you're getting your money's worth. The food is delicious but very heavy. The come to your table like this:

I'm not someone who's into fatty red meats and bacon wrapped chicken so I never ate that much but if you have a big appetite and don't care about your arteries you'll love it.

Yeah that's the main issue. You have to love steak to justify what you'll spend.

I'm only spending big if it's wagyu.

More about ceremony/tradition than actual quality tbh.

I've eaten at many of these high-priced, elegant restaurants (there are so many in LA, OC and SD) to come to the conclusion that the best steaks I've eaten were home-cooked.

A lot of this is the psychological priming and a whole lot of money on a single meal/experience to only be hungry again the next day.

Only time you can catch me at one of these things is if I'm going with a group and they're having a dinner at a place like this.
