He dropped Room For Improvement in 2006 and it sold 6,000 copies. If he could simply buy his way into the game, don't you think he'd have done it sooner than the 5 years between that release and his debut in 2011? Or does it take half a decade for the money to kick in?

No, it's really not.
The vast majority of the die hard Drake fans on this site are self admitted casual rap fans. For literally any other topic, be it sports, movies, whatever, no one is going to let the casual fans dictate anything. It just doesn't happen. Social media in particular is one of the worst things to happen to rap because it gave casual fans a plat form, and now they think their opinion matters.
