A black man entrepreneur

U suppport cacs

U support over priced asians stores

But a black man trying to make it u hating on makes no sense
This thread is a prime example why blacks will never make it here. nikkas will literally put other blacks under s microscope and dissect and cherry pick reasons not to support em but will throw their money at anyone else no problem. :scust:

This is why I don't go out of my way to support 'black business'.

"When you are your own owner you can come up with any price you want."
"...all the profits would be going to Lonzo."
"...it ain't about millions with us. It's about them B's -- billions."
(source: LaVar Ball defends price of Lonzo's shoe line)

Like many black business owners who price themselves out-of-the market, Lavar Ball isn't doing this "for the culture", he's doing this to extract as much money from the black community as possible...which is fine from a business perspective, just don't try to guilt-trip me into supporting these products from a cultural perspective.

If the 'Big Baller Brand' was really about creating something "for the culture", his merchandise would be competitively priced, at least some of the profits would go back into the community, and he'd be hiring black folks to make his shoes and work in his warehouse/store.

This move looks like a cash-grab to enrich the Ball family -- again, which is fine -- but lets stop pretending this about black empowerment.

What does he owe to the millions of black folks?

That man is in debt to his family and nobody else. He doesn't owe me or anybody else nothing.

If he wants to go and take a risk at business, I salute him if he succeeds because I dont believe in working for anybody or letting anyone control your destiny.

I think ya'll are missing the point. It's about whether we should GO OUT OF OUR WAY to support him. Like how people will support a mom and pop store that's a little more expensive instead of a chain, just because you'd prefer to support them. Maybe it's because you know them, or maybe its just because you believe in small businesses over corporations....

The idea of supporting black business is based on the same premise. But it only makes sense of he's (Lavar) also a supporter if the "black community." If he doesn't care about us, then it's no different than supporting any other business. If they make stuff you like, then you buy it. If not, then you don't. There's a little more gray area to making that purchasing decision if he supports a cause you believe in... which is why corporation have all of these campaigns (breast cancer, military, etc.). They're trying to convince people to buy/support stuff they normally wouldn't.

the only people who say that 'black business' shyt are employees and consumers who have nothing for sale.

people start businesses to make money and feed their families, BEFORE ANYTHING.

anything else is just extra talking points and marketing and bullshyt to make people feel good.

There isn't a single CEO or Boss on earth that cares about anything more than profits and feeding their families. All that other shyt doesnt mean anything.

Business is business.

Aint no emotions in this shyt, people are trying to make dollars and if you aint a paying customer.. you're irrelevant to their operation... thats how it is :yeshrug:

if you not an entrepreneur, dont try to talk on how entrepreneurs get down or what they should do.

I don't get how a dude as Light Skinned as Lavar Ball ( possibly biracial himself) could have a Kid who looks somewhat black with a White woman and Blake Griffin comes out looking pretty much white even with a Dark Skinned Daddy:mindblown:

You're speaking from a business owners perspective. Of course his only goal should be to make money as business. But making money isn't as simple as having a product. You have to target someone. But aside from that, people with money also have to spend their money on something. And if that money is coming back to help people I care more about, then I'll make a concerted effort to support them when I can over someone who doesn't care.

Also, we are speaking from a consumer's perspective. Something has to make me feel like supporting one business over another. So the question being asked is... why should I do that in the case of Lavar Ball.

Honestly... you're not even talking about what this thread is about.

Because if it works out for him, it will usher in a new era where athletes will be independent and not get exploited by Nike, Adidas etc...

Lavar Ball is doing this for the Ball family like any really business owner would. Why are you making this political? When did he say BBB was for the black commmunity?

Why are you chastising him for wanting to make a shyt ton of money?

Black empowerment is him being black empowering his children and his family like any man of any race should. Whoever else benefits from it is a side effect.

Why are you heaping all these responsibilities on a dude selling athletic apparel?

He's not Tariq promoting race related products so why are we subjecting him to these same standards.
