He made 3 straight all-def 2nd team from 82-84. He also led the league 4 times in defensive win shares.

He might not have been a lockdown defender but I feel like he gets underrated in this aspect a bit :ld:
He was a terrible defender, I'm sorry.... Watch the games (they're widely available on youtube btw)
The gap between him and Lebron there is HUGE.

It's close with Bird having a slight edge in rebounding and them being about even in the assist department. But Bron has the elite defense which puts him ahead of Bird. He can guard 4 out of the 5 spots in pinches and he can play all of those spots on the offensive end too. Bird has got him with the jumper of course but Bron negates that with his ability to get to the hoop at will and draw fouls. They are even and it's close and if someone picks Bird that's cool but i'll choose Bron and be ok with that choice.

Being how Bird was a 13 year pro when he retired, and LeBron is now a 13 year pro,
we can closely examine both players body of work.

Larry Bird career averages:
24.3PPG 6.3APG 10.0RPG 1.7SPG 0.8BPG
.496 FG% .376 3PT% .886 FT% (rounded up 50/38/89)

LeBron James career averages:
27.2PPG 6.9APG 7.2RPG 1.7SPG 0.8BPG
.498 FG% .340 3PT% .744 FT% (rounded up 50/34/74)

While LeBrons ppg seems way more impressive than Birds,
its a product of volume as he attempted 2,226 more 3 pointers and 3,750 more Free throws. *

*Bird does beat him in 2 point attempts by 101 attempts.

and while LeBron scored 5,042 more points than Bird did, it is because he actually played a whole extra season+ than bird, playing in 90 more games, and totaling 4,035 more minutes than Bird.

Bird won the MVP in 3 Consecutive years, and is also a 3x Champion and as a rookie helped his team make a 32 game turnaround and get the 1st seed in the conference. (LeBron was 18 game turnaround and no playoffs)

First thing we gon see is beat a 70 win team :russell:

Man get the fukk on.

Bron got this dude beat all around the board.
