"Many gamers don't even look to influencers for reviews, they look to influencers to be told what to think about the games," said Cain. "People don't form opinions from the online video, they're handed an opinion from the online channel they're watching."Many gamers don't even look to influencers for reviews, they look to influencers to be told what to think about the games," said Cain. "People don't form opinions from the online video, they're handed an opinion from the online channel they're watching."

"I've seen reviews go from 'this game has less combat and more puzzles and dialogue for you to interact with than this other game,' to, 'This game is stupid and slow -paced and made for casuals, I think you should skip it.' That's a huge difference in how games are presented. They find someone they just like, and then that person's opinion becomes their opinion."

"More people seem to be abdicating their own judgement to that of people they see online," said Cain. "I don't want to think about it, you tell me what I should think about it."

He's right. I saw it with Assassin's Creed: Shadows. There was an example of someone liking the look of the game, but then watched their favorite content creator and changed their mind.

In years past people disliked followers or sheep, but nowadays there is a large contingent of people that have embraced being a mindless lemming.

This was said about MAGA but i think it holds true for lots of internet discourse.

People are not attached to facts, details, their own opinion anymore. They are attached to the community. Truth/facts/details can change on a whim as long as the communities identity is upheld.

Influencers tap into that and farm views based on speaking to the communities desires/worldview instead of the facts.

There might be some merit to this but i dont think it's influencers its more like the CEO's are directly injecting themselves into their devs process ruining it because they chasing profit highs...

Main thing thats changing how games are made is the mindset "we need our version of this game that prints money for that other company". That on top of the fact its harder to live up to sales expectations currently so you get less risks from major releases.

On the topic of the thread, people are farming for engagement and making content out of the negative sentiment they've heard from their communities online. If you actually play games and pay attention that shyt is see thru but people less plugged in may think it's the prevailing opinion.

shyt like this is ruining online discourse. These become hot button topics and drag out drowning out conversation about the games. Similar thing with Ass Creed.

a tweet with an image, that's not the image in question. linking to a pushsquare article (that contains spoilers) about a now deleted tweet, that used a fake screenshot to try to say the game has gone 'woke'

why engage with any of this nonsense?

100%.

People talked themselves into acting like it was the worst game ever made. Mostly because of Yasuke and mostly white men at that. If the story had Naoe and some white Portuguese dude as the co-main, they wouldn't have said shyt.

The idea of a Black man being respected in 1500s Japan, was too much for them. Asians mostly didn't mind, but white boys were all up in arms.
