:russ:He’s right, and that goes for almost every form of media. Some people can’t form their own opinions without hearing it from their internet daddies first. I'm not saying that reviews don’t matter or that you can’t agree with some of their points. But some people be holding these influencers/reviewer’s opinions as law. Ultimately, your opinion and personal experience should override any score/reviewer’s opinion. And I said it before, but “the discourse around gaming is cooked.” Almost every new release finds its way into some culture wars BS, straight up hate campaigns, misinformation, or the game being labeled. The worst game of all time, extremely mid, slop, or a masterpiece. :mjlol:There’s no in between lol.

The fact that folks in here are acting like they're above checking out reviews/impressions of a game before buying is hilarious.

Game can sound look cool on the surface. But when it drops full of bugs, who else is going to tell us about that shyt (i.e Redfall)? The developer?

Apparently you should just buy the game for $70 and find out yourself but at the same time you're a Soany cuck if you buy a $70 game day one but you should also not listen to anything online because reasons.

would we have got a Five Nights at Freddy's movie if Markiplier never played that game?

He's right. I saw it with Assassin's Creed: Shadows. There was an example of someone liking the look of the game, but then watched their favorite content creator and changed their mind.

In years past people disliked followers or sheep, but nowadays there is a large contingent of people that have embraced being a mindless lemming.
He's right but not for the reasons he gave. He's talking about mechanics in that statement, specifically that influencers tell gamers that games a made for casuals and gamers just believe it.

But thats true, games are made for casuals, which is why games have shyt like yellow paint and lighting to direct the player.

But its also true that influencers will convince the market that good games aren't good because they feature a woman or black protagonist or a story that could be seen as political.

Also what's the difference between a reviewer and a influencer? Reviewers aren't necessarily honest actors, most are trash at games and give scores based off how much money the company paid them.

Simply take bits and pieces of everything you hear and form your own opinion.

No single influencer/reviewer should dictate everything about a game.

Exception for Sushi X from EGM. I rented everything he gave a high score to.

Main thing thats changing how games are made is the mindset "we need our version of this game that prints money for that other company". That on top of the fact its harder to live up to sales expectations currently so you get less risks from major releases.

On the topic of the thread, people are farming for engagement and making content out of the negative sentiment they've heard from their communities online. If you actually play games and pay attention that shyt is see thru but people less plugged in may think it's the prevailing opinion.
Facts. Influencers arent making or breaking a game. The game as a product does.
I feel the argument is disingenuous in that it is addressing a problem thats much lower on the list of what actually is ailing the industry.

An influencer (aka a reactionary) isnt changing how a game is played. Silly argument
