a tweet with an image, that's not the image in question. linking to a pushsquare article (that contains spoilers) about a now deleted tweet, that used a fake screenshot to try to say the game has gone 'woke'

why engage with any of this nonsense?
Sony cult luh this this type of content depending on the target :mjpls:

This was said about MAGA but i think it holds true for lots of internet discourse.

People are not attached to facts, details, their own opinion anymore. They are attached to the community. Truth/facts/details can change on a whim as long as the communities identity is upheld.

Influencers tap into that and farm views based on speaking to the communities desires/worldview instead of the facts.

With gaming, between demo and gameplay vids before a game releases, you have enough info to make a decision on buying a game.

I will never get fleeced again after Magic Johnson's Fast Break :mjcry:

Most of society doesn't think for themselves, the ones that do are usually the ones most successful in life :sas2:

the most opinionated ppl in the gaming space today don't actually buy/play/support anything to even form a valid opinion :yeshrug:
Engagement/Attention for dem likes and clicks is the name of the game.

So many of these influencers talk shyt, then you see them spending hours on the same game they said was trash. And people fallin for their fulla shyt asses.

cacs calling out cac tweets :wow:

What I wonder is for all you guys who run to go look at some metacritic score of a game or run to watch a review of a game or run to see how many players are online in steam for a game...how did you buy games before metacritic scores and cac reviews and steam stats?

Did you just have somebody in your life to tell you what game to buy?

Did you just buy whatever game your friends told you to?

You really see it when you see shyt like EA / Respawn being gaslit into making a single-player campaign for BF6 by influencers who probably cant name 3 characters from all the BF campaigns combined in history.

Same with shyt like Elden Ring where people who never played a single Souls game bought the game to feel included in the conversation, and critics who didn't even beat the game gave it perfect scores for the same reason.

That's in line with the point of the thread. The medium by which it came from isn't the central point, it's that this is where it starts which then leads to influencers talking about something which leads to conversations spiraling out of control. You can not follow anything about a game, but then something like that makes the rounds on a forum and permeates through discussions. I played the beta for Concord and somewhat enjoyed it before I was even aware it was the talk of the town.

I filter out games by my interests first and foremost, then high scores confirms that this is probably a great game and then I buy most likely. If I'm so-so on a game, but then I see the scores are low then I will probably pass on the title. If I don't care about the game, but then see the scores are very high I might try to broaden my horizon and see what the hype is about. I've bought games with low metacritic scores and vice versa. Metacritic is just for discussion, not the final criterion for my purchasing habits.

There's no one single method to buying games for me at least. Back in the days I'd just read EGM previews and see pictures and/or play demos to discern what I want. I never bought games based on what friends were playing. My friends all had different taste. Some of us just played mostly fighters, some racing, some sports etc. I was into everything. I do not care or follow any gaming influencers. I've never went out and bought/skipped a game because a single person on a stream said "This game sucks/is hot!".

Like the DRM thread? Like the one @The Mad Titan started with random stans on twitter right? Y'all all do it, stop trying to turn this into a "ya'll!" thing. It's a broader discussion happening. "Gamers" outsource their thinking to talking heads on whatever platform you are on e.g. Twitch, Twitter, forums etc.

"It gets the people going!"

It's useful at times. Something being in the format of a tweet, article or video doesn't change the validity/invalidity of the information. Painting an entire medium as "cac tweets" when it doesn't align with your bias is silly.

Now you back to defending the shyt :dead:

Twitter is quite litteraly a nazi misinformation platform. The only thing that matters on twitter is engagement.

If you engage with that platform you are misinformed and manipulated from the jump.

It’s why most serious people have moved on to blue sky or threads. Twitter is a cesspool of cacery :scust:
