Nipsey was “Black Famous” most of his career and was JUST about to cross over in a big way just before his death, which makes it even more tragic because by all accounts he was a good brother with a genuine interest in helping the BLACK community he came up in.

That said, he wasn’t on the level the whites that write for Family Guy, South Park, Rick & Morty, etc would know about him. As Family Guy jokes go, this was actually pretty tame. They been going at Kanye heavy for YEARS and he even appeared on The Cleveland Show (Family Guy spinoff)
IMHO I don’t think he was gonna cross over, he was out for along time before that.

And speaking of ICP Shaggy 2 Dope knew who Nipsey was on my shirt at the gathering. I even told him to tweet #fukkericholder

So was 2 Chainz and other rappers who “blew” relatively late in their careers.

I’m not suggesting he was going to be Drake or anything. More along the lines of a West Coast Pusha T. I could see him doing some high profile collaborations, fashion, endorsements, music licensing for movies and tv shows. He was already dabbling in acting and producing documentaries and the like. All of that would have served to raise his profile and crossed him over to where his name would have rang bells outside of Hip Hop.

He seemed to have that hustle in him (No pun intended) where he could have excelled at a lot of things. I think he could have won Grammys and other major accolades off the strength of his talent and work ethic not just because he died.

Of course we’ll never know but I feel its disrespectful to write off everything he accomplished in his lifetime as simply “Regional” and “Niche”. He was a step above that and headed towards greater heights

Yep, non rap fan may not have had a clue about who he was and that's fair but if you were a fan of rap you knew, and Victory Lap was pretty anticipated. It even debuted in the top 5 on the billboard and nominated for a grammy and that was over a year before he died.

Let's be reality I liked Nipseys music and started listening around 2012-2013 and he def had a decent sized and loyal fanbase on the Coli. But dude was a regional rapper not saying his star wasn't rising but he died before we could see that play out. Victory Lap had the feel of a breakout album.

Nippsey definitely got more love abd attention after his death. He became a deity for the whole marathon thing after he died. He was really a Westcoast only dude, if you fukked with rap you would know him even if not on the Westcoast. But he was really not a big act. Could probably name 50 contemporsry rappers that were bigger than him before his death.
