No need to make excuses why you struggle to make $250k with 2 fukking Trucks

Are you on a Dedicated Account/Contract or do you go strictly off of a Load Board?
What are you hauling?

What city you live in before we continue? Im in Chicago, one of the busiest transportation hubs in the nation..

Maybe if you getting those crappy cheap freight from the load board.
Get you some direct shipper customers breh.

And what city are you from? Location determines the freight rates and volume.. Sounds like you guys listen to youtube videos a lot.

I am in the Boston area.
This info I get direct from OTR Owner Operators in my area. I know rates are down at the moment but grossing 5k a week in my region is for sure feasible.

I own a tri axle dump truck and I can gross at minimum 4k a week easily during our busy season..

Im 32 and been planning on getting my CDL in the next few months. Y’all are making me doubt my decision. Maybe I’ll just destroy my body and use the CDL to do food service for a few years.

What's making you doubt it?

One of my uncles, my mom's older brother, did trucking for years. Its brutal.

He did own his own truck. My dad did his taxes a couple of years and I saw how much he made which was something near $300k. But then you see the operating expenses, fuel, repairs, etc and its a lot. He still made good money but that top line number is deceiving.

Its not about how much you make, but how much you keep.. Freight is at historic lows, and expenses has risen.. Stop misleading people.
this 1000% - its sad how many people I saw jump on that early Covid spike in volumes, going out and buying more/updated equipment, only for things to take such a drastic turn in the market. We are still near the bottom, its been 2+ years now. I am really hoping things start to turn for the better in 2024.

that being said, you can make some good $$ driving, esp as an owner/op - but the work is hard, the operating expenses are high and it takes you away from home/family if you want to cash OTR money

I have a lot respect for drivers, Im in the industry. I hope things get better soon, because we need drivers.

I was just letting people know its extremely hard to make $250k a year now. Its was definitely possible, and more common, prior to the industry slow down.

I have a relative that's a local truck driver and he said owner operators are getting hit really hard with all the expenses that come with being a owner.. Local trucking is booming though.. We're in Maryland.
